Draft at the Berghoff Bar. Quite different from their previous hefeweizen. Not too cloudy (and served here WITHOUT a wedge). Amber to brown, somewhat clearer than the usual unfiltered wheat. Smell cover mostly a slightly spicy wheat nose and definite German hops. Taste brings out the wheat malt, and only further in do we get a hint of banana and clove esters. Focus is on the noble hops, and they are fully represented. Darn good wheat beer all around, with plenty of Old World charm.
Poured out half clear, half haze. The aroma was light. Taste was average at best. I prefer strong hefe characteristics with a bit of sweetness forward and this beer just seemed bland compared to some I’ve had. Carbonation and mouthfeel was on point. At Berghoff,Chicago. I assume this is the one I had because the other weizen has been retired for years. A little soap in the flavor and aroma
Otherwise it is ok woth moderate sweetness and some banana, hazy orange color and a thin lacing head. Certainly not up to the best examples of the style, but it has more flsvor and palate than some. pbeer (5) - - NOV 23, 2015 does not count
UPDATED: DEC 17, 2015 Bottle, Mariano's Chicago. Very underrated nails the Hefe style down very well in all aspects for a domestically brewed beer. MarkoR (959) - Toronto, Ontario, CANADA - AUG 28, 2015

Bottle from Berghoff variety 12 pack. Pours a cloudy golden color with a white capped foamy head. Expected more lacing along the glass after seeing the initial head but barely any stuck to the glass. Aroma has a good amount of banana and clove. Flavor had similar notes of banana and clove along with bubblegum. Fairly sweet overall. BVery (10327) - Plymouth, Minnesota, USA - APR 5, 2015
Bottle from Mousehouse Cheesehouse. Very slightly hazy light gold pour with a pillowy white head. Banana, clove, and some herbal elements on the aroma. Similar taste, but almost a hint of old/rotten banana (not a ton, but just a hint). Palate is a little more dense than others in the style. Frank (4172) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - FEB 19, 2015
This is really clear and thus I’d call it a krystalweizen, not that that really matters. It’s yellow in color w/ a small head. There’s a bit of banana and clove in the nose plus a touch of earth and grass. This is a bit sweet and heavy w/ some earthy bitterness in the finish to balance. It is a little on the thick side but not really creamy and it’s highly carbonated. I wouldn’t put this along w/ the best of its style but its pretty solid. If they could improve the texture and get rid of some of the grassy tones, it’d be pretty damn good. PorterPounder (7893) - Tallahassee, Florida, USA - FEB 13, 2015
Tallahassee, Fl. - ABC Fine Wine & Spirits - Betton - 12 oz bottle. Pours a hazy medium golden with a light soft snow white head. Aroma of cloves and banana. Flavor is a good representation of the style with nice clove and banana accents, some coriander notes and a touch of banana. Nice crisp refreshing mouthfeel. Pretty decent.
