My Bottom Line:Snojerk321 (2960) - San Diego, California, USA - AUG 10, 2009
Vanilla-like bourbon notes overtake the light caramel malts, while red fruit and alcohol warmth aim for complexity.
Further Personal Perceptions:
-A veil of foam tops the nearly translucent mahogany.
-The long wooden barrel character is a tad abrasive if you’re not into that sort of thing.
-The soft carbonation makes for some serious sipping, as the flavors are intense.
-I would have preferred a few more residual sugars to try and balance out the bourbon barrel presence which, right now, is too brash for me.
22oz bottle. Pours deep brown with a reddish hue and a small beige head. Nose of apple, bourbon, and a little like peat malt? Flavor also held tons of green apples, bourbon and oak. Medium-heavy finish, a touch of booze on the palate. craftycarl21 (2338) - Seattle, Washington, USA - JUL 20, 2009
Pours a dark teak color with a small beige head. Aroma is heavy with booze, bourbon, malt, and some sticky caramel and syrup. Flavor is really solid- lots of liquor, caramel, toffee, and oak. Very solid brew. Jblauvs (1358) - Chester, Vermont, USA - JUL 20, 2009

Poured a lightly hazy amber color with a small, off white head that left light lacing on the glass. Aroma of caramel, vanilla, oak, toffee, toasted malts, and oxidized sherry. Taste of caramel malts, toast, light smoke, toffee, vanilla, and a dry, oaky finish. JoeMcPhee (9427) - Toronto, ON, Ontario, CANADA - JUL 10, 2009
Bomber shared by goldtwins. Deep brow beer. The aroma is sweet and malty. Loads of chewy caramel and a bit of toast and sweet malt as well. There is only a kiss of bourbon and a light vineous character. Sweet and sticky with a soft bourbon character. There is a bit of toasted malt and heavy caramelly character. Lightly boozy with a touch of light woodiness. Some nice components, but I’m not sure this actually works for me. notalush (5883) - Lakewood, Colorado, USA - JUL 1, 2009
Bomber shared by goldtwins? - cloudy purple pour - slightly tart, tannic, oaky aroma - light hints of bourbon and red wine - the flavor has a light acidity, vanilla, mild tannins, loads of toasted oak, coconut - odd, but quite tasty. Ibrew2or3 (8660) - Tempe, Arizona, USA - JUN 14, 2009
Bottle courtesy of Gillard. Pours clear deep copper with thin off white head. The aroma is musty dank dark fruitiness with prunes, figs, dates and raisins to go along with a sense of black pepper. Behind those notes is a solid oakiness. The taste is smooth and thin with moderate oak notes mixing with bourbon, sweet dark grapes, cherries, raisins and plums. I get a mild tart berry note mixing in there too. alobar (3833) - Lansdale, Pennsylvania, USA - JUN 7, 2009
Very nice beer! Nice dark brown color with amber highlights. Aroma of malt, caramel, malt, and a touch of wood. On the palate, very smooth with caramel, malts with a touch of bourbon.
