Billed on the bottle as "World's Best Dark Lager" and the claim us plausibly true. Excellent flavour and aroma. Simple recipe with no special additives. Not surprising since the brewery has existed since 1597.

On tap in London. An excellent dark lager. dark brown , almost opaque.
roasty malty aroma. notes of nuts , coffee.
big malty taste. very mellow , sweet licorice and chocolate flavors under the malt.
A very enjoyable beverage. the palate is superlaive , coats the tongue like a good dark chocolate and has a very pleasant aftertaste.

Outstanding dark beer. Heavy molasses and malt flavor. Slight twist of burning sugar, chocolate and some bitterness on the aftertaste with licorice tones. Head was creamy, but not overly so. Was able to have the hard to find Grolsch popper top in Czech Republic. Easily one of the best dark beer in the Czech Republic. Purchased for 60 Krowns in super grocery store (about $1.50 US). Gotts love those currency exchanges! beerloverny (3) - - APR 19, 2014 does not count

Many thanks to my Secret Santa :). The nose is great burned bread. The beer starts intense smooth roasted. Dry, bitter chocolate, milky espresso. Great. A smooth bitterness comes in and let the beer become even more round and great. Very dry, liquorice without sweetness, roasted chocolate malt, moderate bitter. Great!! rozsoma (1021) - Gyõr, HUNGARY - NOV 19, 2009
Nice black colour with a solid brown head which is frothy and mostly diminishing without lacing. Smokey aroma with roasted malts. A few minutes later caramel notes comes forward. In the flavour there is the perfect bitterness. Unfortunately short aftertaste. One of my favourites. i will drink it more usually........................................... i celebrate with this my 50th rate. cheers! holdleder (370) - Kongerslev, DENMARK - JUL 28, 2013
50 cl. flaske med patent låg. 5,1 % . Tæskelækker mørk, næsten sort øl, fra Tjekkiet. Dejlig, dejlig øl uden bitterhed, superb LordCrabapple (109) - Merseyside, ENGLAND - MAY 3, 2008
UPDATED: OCT 13, 2011 This is a high quality beer. Classy, not for yobs. It tasted like burnt caramel to begin with, then went more towards smoke. A surprising find. And Her Ladyship loves it! Not the kind of beer I would drink often, but then I’m an old fool. tzakiel (81) - Virginia, USA - JAN 12, 2013
My favorite beer in Prague. Best I had on the whole trip. I wish I could find it in the US.
