bilcho1 (179) - Ruse, BULGARIA - JAN 5, 2018
330ml bottle from the shop, drunk at home. Pours clear with a very brief thin beige head, plenty of lacing, but no visible bead. Dark reddish brown in colour, almost opaque. Aroma of caramel, treacle and toast with some coffee and chocolate notes. Smooth and full in the mouth with strong roasted malt, toast and toffee flavours, quite a lot of sweetness and a soft bitter finish. Overall, an enjoyable mouth-filling dunkel slightly let down by excessive sweetness.

I'm hoping that the recent availability of Bernard is sign that more Czech beers are coming to my state. This brew has a dark brown pour and a tan head. Quite pretty to look at in a tankard. Toasted grain notes and some earthy char. Mild dark fruit sweetness toward the middle-back of the mouth. At the very last, there's a complex bitter, herbal finish that's redolent of pipe tobacco. A fine example of Czech Lager beer.

Aroma is standard dunkel, malts and hints of fruit and tobacco. The flavor is malts, toffee, mild dark fruit/tobacco and a mildly sweet/tart finish.
