On tap at the Beer Baron. It pours a mostly clear reddish brown with a small khaki head. The aroma is strong with caramel and toast. Maybe a hint of raisins, but really caramel heavy. The flavor is the same with strong bitterness that doesn’t really work with the rest of the beer. The body is reasonably dry despite the strong toasted and caramel malt. Good carbonation. Overall it’s enjoyable, but the bitterness is distracting. slowrunner77 (12455) - Reno, Nevada, USA - AUG 29, 2014
Definite aroma and flavor of treacle and molasses. Hops and bourbon both relegated to background duty. Not a bad brew. Easy drinking and less sweet and boozy than expected."

On tap at Capitol Beer, Sacramento. Pours dark brown with a disappearing beige head and a treacle aroma there is a dark molasses flavor with a bit of sour chocolate and a dry boozy finish. bhensonb (15489) - Woodland, California, USA - JUN 20, 2013
Tap at Capitol Beer. Pours dark brown with a transient slight head. Aroma suggests bourbon and prunes. Med body. Flavor is musty sweet bourbon with some smoke and prune/plum or some sort of darkish fruit. Bourbon is dominant in the finish. Heat is well hidden, and the vanilla level is nicely subdued. The flavors are not excessively strong, which makes this a nice beer. DYCSoccer17 (3705) - Woodland, California, USA - DEC 17, 2012
8 ounce sample on cask at the brewery. The aroma has significant sweet, boozy character present, with lots of bourbon character present. Nice vanilla and woody aromas are also present. Opaque black body with a creamy, large, frothy cream-colored head present. Starts sticky, chewy, and sweet. Vanilla hints follow. Bourbon flavors become present, with more vanilla later on. A nice beer, but I would prefer a little more carbonation, if possible. Ethanol is nicely hidden. Flavorful, tasty stuff.
