Cask (gravity dispense) at Egham Beer Festival on 20 August 2011. No surprise that my first sighting of the new beers from Peter Fowler, formerly of Pitstop brewery, is an imperial stout. Full, rich and sweetish. Lots of chocolate and coffee. Slightly oily consistency. Reminded me a bit of Pitstop Bitumen. Maybe just a touch lighter in the mouthfeel. Peter is in the process of installing a new brewery at the Shoulder of Mutton pub in Wantage but, in the meantime, is brewing at Old Forge and/or Halfpenny.

Cask, handpump at The Shoulder of Mutton, Wantage, Oxon at 02:30am Sat 30th July 2011 in company of Peter Fowler Pours black with slim head, aroma is nutty and lightly roasty. This is a more approachable and easier drinking beer than the Bitumen which was one of Peter’s trademark beers when brewing at the Pitstop Brewery. Some nuttiness in the mouth along with lingering smooth coffee and chocolate and a dash of dark fruit. Smooth, softer and too drinkable at 7%. Great start from Peter in his new venture, this beer brewed at The Radnor Arms, Old Forge Brewery, Oxon. A7 A4 T7 P4 Ov14 3.6
