COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
When creating the recipe for this beer, we bore in mind what one associates with oatmeal. Hence the base was laden with a bunch of oat flakes, roasted malts and roasted barley. The end result reflects this - intensive flavours, a coffee and dark chocolate aroma and a creamy texture. So we would not smother this, we added only as much hops as was needed to delicately balance the flavour.

07-07-2017; bottle; at home (bought online at www.drankgigant.nl, Oost-Souburg, The Netherlands). The beer looks perfect. It truly is a lovely dark stout. Without light the beer is pitch black. Strong light reveals a beautiful ruby red glow. The beer looks rather clear, but it is so dark that it is hard to tell. On top of the beer some nice brownish foam is formed. Foam retention is rather low, which is rather normal for this type of beer. The smell of the beer is nice. It is like a good stout should smell like. There are nice bittersweet malt aromas. I smell some nice bittersweet chocolate, lovely roasty and bitter coffee and some touches of just toasted malts. I love those dark malt aromas. There is a nice slight touch of hops, but it is minimal. It doesn’t interfere with the malts, but I wouldn’t mind slightly more hops. The taste of the beer is also lovely. It is just what I like. There are nice bittersweet malts, with flavours of chocolate, coffee, some caramel and just some toasted malts. Really not bad. I like it. There is also a nice bitter balancing touch of hops. Just enough to make the beer well balanced. I think that this beer doesn’t need more hops, however I don’t mind a strongly hoped stout. Palate is good. Medium body, not as full as some stouts can be, and a nice slightly creamy texture. I know more creamy ones though. Carbonation is medium, resulting in a nice tingly touch. The finish is very good. It is filled with toasty malts, even a touch of liquorice, and some nice toasty hops. I like this one.
