Nice little new year’s treat here. Dark amber with ruby highlights and a small beige head that recedes quickly. Good clarity and fine carbonation.
Light booziness in the nose with plums, strawberry jam and caramel all balanced out by tart brett and dry woodiness. Don’t get tons of sherry in the nose, and the aroma strength is only medium. After drinking some, my guess is that it either spent a relatively short time in the barrel or this was a 3rd or later run through the barrels. Perhaps not as exciting for the aroma, as that’s where I’d like to find more of the sherry, but it certainly does wonders for the flavor, where the sherry is only an afterthought. I’d ALMOST say that it’s too little barrel character, which for me, is a big statement, as I like it very, very reserved. Still, it’s there with some nuttiness, butter and almond-like flavor, that comes out on the finish, intermingled between the lovely fruit and brett notes. Nicely dry, but not overly so, with a solid body of malt sweetness for balance and all the complexity you could desire. Alcohol is reserved; certainly doesnt show the 11%, though I was drinking it very slowly so it didnt really have a chance to get fatiguing/cloying. I love AdSBC so much and this is no exception. If youre lookin for a lot of sherry out of this one, dont get your expectations too high, but if you like BFM’s beers, this one won’t disappoint.
Pours red with some pinkish bubbles. Smells of residual sugar, earthy, vinegar, some oaky elements, light fruity notes. Tastes dry/sour with some fruity elements on the finish. A little more carbonation would turn this from very good to very awesome. alexsdad06 (10670) - West Chester, Ohio, USA - DEC 30, 2013
Draft at Dutch’s during the sour event. Pours a clear amber color with a small off white head. The aroma and flavor have tart /sour fruit, caramel, wood, mild sherry notes, some sweetness, good body to it with some carbonation. Tasty, but more malty than the other sours. douglas88 (9572) - Portland, Oregon, USA - DEC 24, 2013
On tap at Beermongers. A really good beer. Pours a reddish color with basically no head. A wonderful deep fruity and lambic dusty nose. Vinous. The flavor is sour, but not overly so, some red wine, sweet herbal notes, wood, light cherries. Pretty awesome. boFNjackson (4201) - Portland, Oregon, USA - DEC 23, 2013
Tap @ The BeerMongers 4th Annual Christmas Eve Eve Barrel Aged Beer Fest (BOOM!)... Poured reddish/deep/ dark amber with a little to no head. Aroma was amazing. Wonderful vinous, port/sherry soaked wood and tanginess. Tastes similar to the aroma. Added sourness, dark fruits, candied sweetness, and even some maltiness to help keep it all grounded. Acidic sourness and wood, along with dark fruits, grapes, cherries were prominent. Port-like, fortified wine characters worked well here.

On tap at Dutch’s. Mildly hazy red orange brown color. Minimal off-white head, and dots of lace. Bigger body. Very light carbonation. Lightly slick, then drying in the finish... Might not sound that appealing, but its a pretty nice texture overall, the full body is very nice. Awesome dark fruit, wood, and spice flavors to this. Very satisfying tart, spicy woody sour finish, and a light, pleasant sweetness overall. Alcohol is pretty well-hidden, just a bigger, full body is all that hints at it. Very nice, super-complex sour ale overall. Very enjoyable to sip on during an exceptionally cold November evening. Renobob (2064) - Besançon, FRANCE - NOV 22, 2013
Acidité très marquée, citron très présent. Les amateurs de gueuzes seront satisfaits ! radagast83 (8321) - Arlington, Virginia, USA - OCT 31, 2013
Draft at ChurchKey for Night of the Living Ales: Part 3. Poured a clear reddish-brown color with a off-white head. Some tart barrel notes, sherry, some very tart notes. Vinegar character to this. Alcohol pretty well masked actually! Pretty good. Iphonephan (7198) - Jackson Hole/McLean, Virginia, USA - OCT 31, 2013
On draft at ChurchKey DC during the Night of the Living Ales on halloween. Pours a hazy gold with an off white head. Bandaid nose. Flavors of tart apples and tart cherries with only the slightest hint of sherry. Very tart finish. Tmoney99 (14856) - Cincinnati, Ohio, USA - OCT 19, 2013
Tap sample. Poured a hazy dark orange color with an average frothy white head that mostly lasted with good lacing. Moderate to heavy sour fruit and wood aroma. Medium to full body with a tingly texture and soft carbonation. Medium to heavy sour & sweet flavor with a medium to heavy sweet & sour finish of moderate to long duration. This is a standout beer.
