Silver medal at Soleure’s extreme beer fest 2007. An extreme black beer whose nose goes toward pepper, vanilla, ashes, tobacco and fresh hops. It reaches the palate all in softness, but quickly becomes intensely bitter, though not very dry. Long and satisfying finish.
This Cuvée was created in the honor of the Jurrassian revolutionist Alex Le Rouge. Enjoy this wonderful Cuvée at about 10°-12° Celsius (50°-53°F), with a crunch of bitter Chocolate or a Cigar. Cuvée Alex Le Rouge can be sequestrated for a few years in a cellar. Ingredients: water, barley malts, hops, cane sugar, yeast, Serawak pepper, Russia tea, Bourbon vanilla.

An unusual stout in that it has a lot of malt character. Not much head or aroma. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

On tap. For an imperial stout, this hit all of the wrong notes -- it was thin, tart, and earthy, and I didn’t get much of any chocolate or roasted flavors. I wonder if it was aged too long or something, although it looked like a fresh keg. Strange stuff...

pours into a deep dark body with a creamy head. the aroma is a good simple and almost subtle spice and it’s easy to pick up some chocolate there as well. the flavour of the beer is more complex, the description suggested a tobacco flavour that i didn’t pick up on at first, after a few sips the flavour builds up in the after taste and then breaks into the full on flavour of the drink, this joins the vanila spice and the chocolate. this is truly a great drink, and will surely have it again and i’m thankful to get a chance to try it again.

Draught @ Owl Farm. Opaque dark brown with very small frothy beige head, faint berry like aroma, low carbonation, sweetish black tea/mocha taste with a bit of fruity flavor, slight kick from the pepper, smooth body, long sweetish finish with some pepper aftertaste. Smooth, a bit too sweet.

Keg. Pours dark brown. Aroma of roast malts, burnt wood, vanilla and dark chocolate. Moderate sweet and bitter. A little thinner than I’d prefer in an imp stout but enjoyable.

Very bark clear brown with tan head. Aroma is interesting, chocolate and pepper, some red wine, unusual for an imperial stout. Taste has a lot of roast, chocolate, and coffee, but the dominating wine notes seem to distract from that. As a classic imperial stout, it’s not very good. As a cuvee, it is interesting, but the combination of chocolate, coffee, ash, and sour notes is not the best. It’s obviously a beer of a very particular niche, and I’m not sure how many people would truly enjoy it. I prefer a classic example myself...

On tap Mastro Birraio, Trieste-Italy with Dimitrij. Black pour with caramel highlights, crazy ivory foam with retention. Nose: BFM signature! Tomato, Parmesan a bit, fruity. Mouth: wow! Lovely! Brett, sweet pleasant molasses, dry finish of plums! Yes! ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
