3.5 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
33cl bottle served in a stem glass. Pours lightly hazed amber with a thin ring of head. The smell is similar to a lambic with funky barnyard and sour notes as well as some pineapple, cherry, and some candy sweetness. The flavor is earthy and tart with some aspirin and cardboard. Dry throughout with low carbonation. The smell is very nice but the taste can’t quite holds up its end of the bargain. Perhaps I waited a bit too long to drink this one. Interesting at least.
Deep amber coloured body with a very thin and fast-dying just off-white head. Aroma of light spices, chocolate, roasted malt, pit fruits and a very light and floral hoppiness. Medium-bodied; Pungent chocolate and deep roasty flavours with a thinnish bodied finish showing earthier malts and bits of prunes and raisins. Aftertaste shows hints of light spices, a touch of the chocolate and just a mild earthy flavour and the slightest note of sour yeast. Overall, a decent beer, but I was expecting more, especially with the body of the beer. I sampled this 33 cL swing top bottle, purchased from New Beer Distributors in New York, New York on 13-July-2013 for US$7.00 sampled at home in Washington in celebration of finishing the USMC Marathon on 27-October-2013. 33 cL swingtop bottle from Greenville Beer Exchange. Looks like this is six years old, but I haven’t had it nearly that long. Pours a hazy amber-brown color with no head. Tart aroma, yeast and earthy. The taste is tart lemon, cocoa, citrus, earth, herbal finish. Thin bodied. keanex (1799) - Atco, New Jersey, USA - JUN 20, 2013

Appearance: The body is an ugly murky brown with only a thin light tan head that has poor retention, but settles into a light coating with a firm ring.
Aroma: The aroma hints at cocoa, but also at nail polish with hints of vinegar, perhaps a bit of pee aroma. The aroma is mild, not too appealing either.
Taste: The intro hints at cocoa but quickly gives way to a watery mid taste that transitions softly into a very light sour on the finish with hints of vinegar. Cocoa powder sits on the tongue after the sip, though it’s mild.
Palate: Watery with a light fizz.
Overall: This is a beer that is simply past its prime. This should have never been aged near this long. This has become watery and unenjoyable. Pass on this.
Bottle. 2007. Heavy amber in color, pure white head. Aroma is fruity and complex. Flavor notes of ripe fruits, cocoa, and citrus hop. There is a bit of a sour note, the finish is resinous. I really enjoyed this beer and think that a few years in the cellar were very kind. Huhzubendah (3775) - Washington DC, USA - NOV 21, 2012
Bottle shared by Darrell. Woot!
The beer appears orange to ruby in color, with a half inch of tan head that leaves some decent lacing on the tulip glass. The aroma offers light funk, cherries, malt, bread, fruit. Spices assert themselves more in the flavor than in the aroma. Tart cherries, spice, very mild funk. Not sour at all. A bit bland and light in the mouthfeel. Moderately low carbonation and really easy drinking. While this is not incredible, I don’t comprehend the low review average. Enjoyable and tasty, though conservative. Worth a try.

Murky brown pour with no head. Only slight visible carbonation. Aroma was was fruity with plenty of sour notes, vinegary, grape bubblegum. Flavors were somewhat sweet, tart, good bit of grape, the cocoa was hard to pick up on, didn't notice it. Thin mouthfeel, a bit watery with very light carbonation. Pretty enjoyable overall although I will forget about it tomorrow. bottleforager (3211) - Gray, Maine, USA - JUN 6, 2012
Pours a orange copper color with a no visible head... Aromas are herbal, sour plum and a touch of oaky cider vinegar. The flavors are pretty true to the aromas with a nice tart flavor and just the subtle background of cocoa and funky earth on the finish. maxwelldeux (4433) - Snohomish, Washington, USA - MAY 2, 2012
I get only a slight hoppy aroma off this, but huge floral notes in the taste. Pours amber and mostly clear with a minimal head. Hints of apple in the drink. Beerona97 (2399) - Washington, USA - FEB 11, 2012
Pours hazed gold with chunkies. Aroma of dark fruit, light tart fruit, sweaty funk. Taste has the same light funk with some herbal hop and fruity esters. I didn’t pick up on the cocoa until I read the label more closely and was then able to pick it out very slightly. Medium light body and carbonation. Fairly dry, light tart finish phaleslu (10906) - Cincinnati, Ohio, USA - AUG 23, 2011
750 ml bottle at The Lion’s Pride, shared with my wife. Tried to share it with the bartender too, but he politely declined. 2008 vintage. Pours a clear brownish-amber with some spots of sediment and a small off-white head. Aroma of cocoa, funk, oak, overripe plums, apples, allspice, and deep herbal notes. Flavor of toast, spices, cocoa, mixed fruit, caramel malts, pepper, and apple cider. Some light sour funk starts to set in after a while. Almost some vegetal character in there as well. Light-medium bodied, with moderate carbonation and a smooth mouthfeel. Very complex and interesting.
