UPDATED: FEB 29, 2016 Bottle, courtesy of Koelschtrinker. Cocoa and boozy chocolate mousse aroma. Hints of prune. A bit dusty. Quite short finish. Thick boozy taste, but well made and aged. Feels old though, but still okay. Werckmeister (3285) - Vienna, AUSTRIA - FEB 22, 2016
0,75l bottle at home shared with a friend, from trade with Sebilinz, big thanks. Vintage 2010. BB 12/2015. dark brown color, small tan head. smells of malty sweetness, nutty, spices, caramel, honey, dried fruits, raisins. full body, soft carbonaton, slick mouthfeel. tastes of dried fruits, raisins, kind of watery, spices, musty / mushrooms, finishes lightly malty sweet, cola, some caramel and spices. finishes quite watery, not much taste, i guess this has been stored too long, not very good. Brownish-copper body, with almost no head.
Aroma of dried fruits, cherries, berries, caramel, cocoa, some wood, some chocolate.
Taste follows this, medium sweet, a bit dry, with some more tea notes, slight tobacco.
Medium, oily mouthfeel, with an average carbonation.
Finishes medium dry, a bit roasty, warm, with cocoa, wood, some fruits, some tobacco.
Very nice. Didn’t have this beer before, so I can’t compare it, but this seems to age very well. Alcohol is well hidden, drinks really smooth, with lovely fruits in the nose and a pleasant, balancing dryness in the tase. Not among my favourite style examples, but great considering this was one of the very first Barley Wines from Austria.
Schoen dick und stark mit einer fruchtigen Note, etwas an Perlung, leichter Getreidigkeit und einer milden Sauere. Nicht schlecht. McTapps (6957) - Reutlingen, GERMANY - AUG 16, 2015
Sample from Erzengel, many thanks, Gabriel. The beer has got a deep dark brown - amber colour with a low head and smooth body. Aroma of barley, dried fruits and oak. Taste of barley, sherry, caramel, rum, dried fruits, plums. Smooth to drink and delicious. Beerhunter111 (22257) - P´Castle, GERMANY - AUG 15, 2015
Vielen Dank an Erzengel! Erzengel (9355) - Wuppertal, GERMANY - AUG 13, 2015
2009er bottle aged in the cellar. Malty-brown sugary nose, intense and interesting. The beer starts fresh and easy to drink. Malt, caramel. Dark dried fruits, a bit dusty. Smooth and dark, but refreshing with watery hints. Not as viscous as I thought. Long dark brown sugary malty aftertaste, round, smooth and full with a warming ending. Nice! Bottle bottled in 2010, aged four years. A Christmas present from my love :). Overall a fantastic brew! This beer has a sorb tree (sorbus domestica or whitty pear) young fruit aroma and ripe sorb tree fruit taste (minus the sweet fruit sugary taste) that reminds me of my childhood. There was a very old and huge sorb tree not far from our family house and I used to pick its ripe fruits. The sorb tree fruit bitterness in taste is phenomenal and holds on to the bitter end. This beer is a personal jackpot for me!
