3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
They’re bottling now, which is pretty cool. Black in color, with a wispy head. Not much head was produced. The aroma is quite pleasant; there are touches of smoke, chocolate, jerky, and a little coffee. The aromas play well together, and nothing really is so salient that it ruins the aroma in terms of overpowering it. I was expecting more of a body considering I saw the word "Porter" on the bottle, but I’m being too critical - it’s just fine. The smoky flavor immediately jumps out at me. Touches of coffee and jerky are there, and a subtle, subtle, subtle, soy sauce flavor. The sweetneess of the chocolate malt doesn’t shine through as much as I though it would. It dries out my mouth quite a bit and leaves a long bitter, smoky flavor. I’m not really digging the flavor I’m left with, but everything else is relatively decent. Not a bad brew, but nothing exceptional either. The Big Al crew are some of the, hands-down, nicest folks I’ve ever met. Cheers.

Black color with brownish head. Solid Porter, dry but smooth, chocolatey, not really smokey.
Straight up what this beer is meant to be. Lightly fumey, light chocolate, dry finish, slightly charred and dry. The peat smoke isn’t really noticeable but rounds out the other porter elements. Definitely better than most faux smoked porters. mcberko (18068) - Vancouver, British Columbia, CANADA - FEB 7, 2016
On tap at Big Al, pours black with a small tan head. Aroma brings out light smoke, toasted malt and bready malt. Flavour is well-balanced, with dry toasted malt and medium smoke. Just a touch of residual sweetness. Well-balanced and constructed overall. Good stuff. Mr_Native (12) - Woodinville, Washington, USA - JUL 23, 2015
Classic smokey bitterness you would expect from a porter mild malt notes and a very easy drinking beer off tap JMCtime (83) - Washington, USA - JUN 19, 2015
Sweet and malty aromas. A mild sweet malt flavor with a strong smokey bitterness. Leaves a smokey roasted coffee after flavor.

Draft pour at malt and vine. Black pour, smoked hop aroma, and you can definitely taste the smoke but it’s not overwhelming. Sledutah (7722) - Utah, USA - JAN 7, 2015

Pours almost black with a small beige head, some lacing. Aroma dark malts, peaty and leather. Taste of roasted malts, ashy, roast coffee and milk chocolate, dry finish
Mouthfeel is a little thin. Very nice.
Niiccceee -- nearly stout like! Incredible chocolate aroma. Solid thick mouthfeel. Very intense chocolate notes. Not getting much smoke, so we have a misnomer here, but I really like this one. maxwelldeux (4374) - Snohomish, Washington, USA - FEB 19, 2014
Bottle. Pours a near-black color with a moderate tan head on it. Nose is actually a bit more complex than I anticipated - I got some burnt roasting and a little dark fruit before I got the smokiness of this one. Taste is very smokey and dry, though I can get just a hint of chocolate at the end of this one. Not a bad brew... ttroha (516) - Atlanta, Georgia, USA - NOV 30, 2013
Bottle. Dark in color with tan head. Aroma of chocolate, malts and coffee. Taste of dark chocolate and smoke with lots of carbonation. Sour aftertaste. Medium bodied. Overall, I’m not a fan of this beer
