Tap. Pours a clear dark amber to light brown body with a foamy light brown head. The nose is citrusy and resiny hops with a bit of chocolate and light roast. Some minimal burnt caramel. The flavor really walks the line between Porter and IPA. Nice chocolate malt base under all the bitter resiny hops. Mouthfeel is medium bodied, just shy of chewy with moderate fizzy carbonation. Lingering chocolate and resiny finish. Really nice BIPA, it does everything pretty well. maxwelldeux (4374) - Snohomish, Washington, USA - MAR 15, 2014
Bottle. Pours a near black color with a smallish light tan head on it. Nose is fairly light, with just some hints of floral hops and roasting in there. Taste is a little sweeter than I would have expected for the style, with a bit of chocolate in there underneath the roasting and bitterness. Really nice. 5000 (6862) - Hardened Liver, Washington, USA - JAN 19, 2014
Bottle: Deep brown, large foamy tannish head, nice lacing. Roasted malts on the nose, also very piney. Seems a bit rough, or green. Smooth roasted malts up front, followed by a fairly pithy and piney background. Body and mouthfeel are moderate. Pithy, piney, with a soft roasted malt finish. Very minor dark chocolate appears, perhaps bakers chocolate. Decent example. Smells a bit rougher than it tastes. mikedR (1561) - Gilbert, Arizona, USA - OCT 22, 2013
Interesting twist on this style. Nice roasted malt backbone and suitably hoppy, but there's a hint of sour and light citrus fruits going on, unexpectedly. I'm not sure though of it completely works or was necessary. A for originality, C for execution. Overall solid B.

Black sasparilla body, chocolate shaving foam head. Cascade pine and pineapple nose. Bitter candy and fruit body. Chinook sour bitter finish with a twist of pineapple. Although the brew is dark, there is only a bitter roastyness at the back of the throat.

Sample at the brewpub. This beer is a dark brown color with a thin and foamy beige head that diminishes quickly to an outer ring. Strings of lacing on the glass. Aroma of roast malt, hops and spruce. Medium-bodied with flavors of toasted malt, resiny hops and grain. The finish is malty up front with a hoppy aftertaste. Above average overall.
