3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
UPDATED: NOV 24, 2011 Bottle. The pour was a clear dark brown with a small (less than 1 finger) tan foamy head which dissipated soon after the pour and had fair lacing.
The aroma was of a roasted caramel malt and a sweet yeast with a hint of chocolate, a mild roasted coffee and had a slight sweet nutty presence.
The taste had a nice rich maltiness to it and was a bit sweet in the beginning and pretty much the same throughout with a hint of chocolate, coffee and a mild nuttiness at the end with the flavor lasting quite a while after the swallow letting the Chocó-coffee flavor linger for a decent while.
Mouthfeel was smooth and creamy in texture with the body being about medium and had a mild carbonation.
Overall definitely a good tasting brew, easy to drink and had a nice lingering aftertaste. Just right for the Brown Ale category!!
Bottle from Harris Teeter in Asheville, CA. Aroma is soupy roasted barley soup, vegetal hops, okra. Taste is soupy, grainy and vegetal with some tang in the finish. A very tangy but Randy Porter if Randy Porter were what you thought it was. Dogbrick (13547) - Columbus, Ohio, USA - FEB 19, 2017
This beer is a clear brown color with a medium light beige head that dissipates quickly to an outer ring. Short strings of lace. Roast malt, chocolate and slight hops in the nose. Light-bodied with flavors of chocolate malt, nuts and mild hops. The finish is sweet with a short malty aftertaste. Slightly above average overall. can8ianben (1577) - State College, Pennsylvania, USA - JAN 11, 2017
Not bad, a bit thin in body, but overall a good representation of the style. Certainly malt forward, subtle bready and fruity notes. Nice. rgf001 (324) - Austin, Texas, USA - MAR 8, 2016
Aromas of caramel, toast. Dark Brown with good head. Flavors of dark caramel, toast and sweet malt. Very balanced but simple. Maverick34 (3315) - New York, USA - OCT 28, 2015
Poured a deep brown. Mild head. Pretty nutty. Some toffee. An ok brown nothing spectacular.

This one is good and has some punchy malt flavors. I’ve certainly had worse brown ales. The aroma could be a little more pungent, but still it has plenty of that brand cereal notes with a sweet underbelly. Taste follows with lots of cereal, brand flakes, toasted bread, toasted malt, grains and faint leather with a smooth sweet sugary character in the background. Finish is slighly sticky and malt...pretty much what you’d expect. ldcuervo (7) - USA - SEP 6, 2015 does not count
Crisp brown ale. Mild roast. Medium color. Very slight hoppy finish. Not bitter. Wish had more depth. Good drinkable beer overall. chinchill (5226) - South Carolina, USA - AUG 20, 2015
From a 12 oz bottle.
Lightly sweet with a mild but lingering flavor.
Medium-light body may be slightly over carbonated and thin.
