Nitro pour at BD. Velvety but thin. Aroma of malted chocolate and roast. Flavor similar, with a touch of hops and anise. Not bad. Travlr (24307) - Charlotte, North Carolina, USA - AUG 21, 2014
Draft at the source. Hazy dark brown color, tan head. Aroma of roasty cocoa. Taste is coffee grounds, bitter chocolate. Decent. Bulk_Carrier (6065) - Vermont, USA - AUG 1, 2014
Ah, the good beer of the night.
The appearance was a dark brown close to black color with a bar pour’s thin white head. Light lacing does trickle a tad.
The smell had a light roasty quality with a tad of light coffee.
The taste was semi-roasty with a touch of caramel and light chocolate.
On the palate, this one sat about a light to medium on the body. It’s somewhat sessionable. The carbonation was somewhat harsh but not overbearing.
Overall, good stout I’d have again. It saved me from that cranberry beer I had before. Vballnbeer (158) - Gorham, Maine, USA - JUL 7, 2013
Had to try this because I had a black lab for several years. Great dog, pretty good beer. It is very dark in color, with roasted, coffee-like malt with a dry finish. Rich, full head and nice aroma. Tmoney99 (14372) - Cincinnati, Ohio, USA - OCT 8, 2012
Draft. Poured a black color with an average frothy brown head that mostly lasted with good lacing. Moderate to heavy toasted malt and chocolate aroma. Medium to heavy chocolate sweet flavor with a medium to heavy sweet finish of moderate to long duration. Medium body with a smooth texture and flat carbonation. This is a very good beer that exceeded my expectations.

Out of growler thanks to ericandersnavy. Pours black. Aroma of coffee, bakers chocolate and dark roast. Flavor is much the same, pretty rich. Medium-heavy mouth feel with low carbonation, some what creamy. Overall, not bad. kathouse (1877) - LAS VEGAS, Nevada, USA - JUL 18, 2011
Nice malt aroma and a big brown head. Beer had big body and excellent roasted, coffee taste. Beer is nitrogen carbonated giving it that typical Guiness type mouthfeel. Best of the beers I tried. Holy (837) - GERMANY - FEB 12, 2011
Sampler at Big Dog’s Brewery. Nice dark color, slight roast and coco in the sip. Too watery for me throught the sip for this style. I would have guessed "Porter" on a blind test. brokensail (16436) - Dublin, California, USA - AUG 15, 2010
A: The pour is a nice dark brown with the usual creamy, off-white head from the nitro pour.
S: The nose is chocolatey (primarily dark chocolate) with some hints of coffee and roasted malt. Perhaps a bit of molasses in there as well.
T: The flavor is not quite as muted as you often find with beers served on nitrogen. Good roast and smooth, creamy chocolate flavor. The coffee is subtle and in the background.
M: The mouthfeel is also quite creamy, though a bit watery at times.
D: A nice stout from a brewery that I had never heard of/had any beers from before. I wouldn’t mind having a glass of this one again. JohnnyJ (5545) - San Diego, California, USA - JUL 27, 2010
On nitro at PP Carlsbad, dark brown, creamy reverse nitro head. Roasted malt, chocolate... really not much going on here. Simple stout, nitro creaminess.
