COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Brewed as a medium India Pale Ale, this full-flavored moderately hopped beer has the strongest hop character of our ales. Made for hopheads and new beer aficionados. The grist composition is 94% Pale malt, with the remaining grain bill consisting of carastan malts. The finishing Mt. Hood hop addition in the whirlpool gives this beer a good hop character without becoming excessively bitter. The beer is fined instead of filtered so the hop character is not stripped away.

Tap at the Schaumburg IL location. Slightly hazy golden orange pour with a very small head. Juicy citrus aroma and taste. Not super rich or complex, but quite serviceable.

On tap @ C.I. Shenanigans in Spokane. Medium amber, thick head, great retention. Very piney, vegetal hop character, nice malts without being overly sweet or sticky. Tasty.

On tap @ C.B. & Potts, Greenwood Village, CO. Coppery amber in color with a fluffy off white head, tons of lacing down the glass. Smells like grapefruit, lemons, and pine hops. Velvety smooth mouthfeel with very light carbonation. Pine resin hits first on flavor, combining with grapefruit. Smooth malt backbone is not assertive but is present, pleasantly. It lacks some complexity, but it’s still a solid IPA, and probably Big Horn’s best offering.

arminjewell (9688) - East Lansing, Michigan, USA - NOV 3, 2013
Pour on tap at the brewpub, clear red pour with thin slightly off white head, aroma brought notes of grass, slight orange, grapefruit in there mixing into some slight spice, nice caramel and toffee in there, a bit weak. Taste is a mix of red fruits, some caramel, toffee, slight vanilla into spice, nice orange peel, grassy notes, finishing fairly bitter.

Called Big Red IPA on the bottle. Light clear red appearance. Nice nose of cascade hops, raspberries and sweet peaches. Very abrasive and acidic initally, with a more robust wood hop flavor towards the middle of the drink, before rolling back with a raspberry hint. Big hops at the start of the drink, but not a bitter finish. Some peanut flavor shows up as well.

Draft to taster at Ram in Indy. Looks solid; a transparent burnt orange with eggshell head. Smells solid; nice juicy hops with a medium-bodied pale malt backbone. Tastes like it smells, but maltier. Average on the palate. Solid, but it smells better than it tastes.

Had this on tap at a Ram in Indianapolis, IN, but unfortunately didn’t take good tasting notes besides the numbers.

On draft @ Ram. Served up way too cold in an 18oz tumbler. This big red IPA doesn’t really look all that red. It’s kind of a light copper with abundant tan head. The aroma is light but has a nice grapefruit hop punch with much lesser amounts of malt. The flavor has a tasty grapefruit hop bitterness with hints of a floral hop quality. Near midway a sweet pale to lightly roasted maltiness comes out. Not long after the maltiness succumbs to the somewhat bitter grapefruit hop finish. Nice IPA.

Had on Draft as Humperdinks Big Red IPA, in dallas .. . Saved this one for last, and it was the best of the lot .. . Pours a light gold tan.. medium foam .. . good dose of bitterness .. quite a light IPA, but still could do the job.. .. . I want to set the record straight. I thought the cop was a prostitute.

Draft at the Tacoma Waterfront location. Slightly hazyu reddish copper. Light gray lace. Little bit of carb. Nutty nose, very slight. Creamy medium body. Tangy apricot mid-palate, with a longish citric bittery finish.
