BBB63 (6557) - La Porte, Indiana, USA - MAY 9, 2003
UPDATED: AUG 17, 2003 RERATE: The Indy version is much better, more hefe in nature, more citrus and crisp more complex taste than previous entry. The new rating reflects the increase in quality...In tap at Humperdinks in Arlington, Texas. A light cloudy appearance. The nose had an banana and malty aroma but not much spices. Sweet but works well with Tex-Mex foods. Drank 3 this last trip. The best of the Big Horn brews. AceOfHearts (1374) - Mountain View, California, USA - MAY 8, 2003
Tap at Dallas location. Milky yellow. Mellow banana-clove with an added touch of sweetness compared with your normal hefe. VERY smooth mouthfeel. Best beer in the house. vector (163) - Dallas, Texas, USA - APR 16, 2003
From Humperdinks in Dallas. Orange and cloudy as a hefeweizen should be. Interesting flavor driven by bananas and sweet malt. Pleasant and drinkable. omhper (25564) - Tyresö, SWEDEN - MAR 24, 2003
Sampled draught at Humperdinks, Dallas, Texas.foduck (330) - Seattle, Washington, USA - DEC 28, 2002
Pale orange, cloudy. Big estery banana aroma. Balanced sweetness along with some fruitiness. Starts promising the finish is disappointingly short and syrupy where metal gives way for banana pie.
UPDATED: JUN 19, 2003 This beer has the right mouthfeel but the wrong flavor. Some wheat, more banana than clove, unpleasant at first. Dry finish. Drinkable but boring. Every micro and brewpub makes one of these, few get it right. Feels a little stronger than most wheats im used to. Dallas Greenville Avenue location. Re-rate 6/19/03: Awful flavor and aroma. Smells like a toilet. Something is really wrong with this. Maybe it was old. This stuff was BAD.
Nuffield (4189) - Roseville, Minnesota, USA - NOV 9, 2002
Very mild aroma--a slight candy hint to it. Hazy yellow, thin head remains, everything as it should appear, but that's more than can be said for its flavor. Laffy taffy flavor, cherry and grape, and a bit of artificial watermelon. Nothing spicy in it. (on tap at Greenville Ave., Dallas location) Ernest (7791) - Boulder, Colorado, USA - NOV 4, 2002
UPDATED: MAR 27, 2003 Draught.
Body is hazy light yellow.
lightly malty (toasted grain),
with a note of banana, light not of clove.
moderately sweet, lightly acidic.
lightly sweet, lightly acidic.
Light to medium body, watery texture, lively carbonation.
Too sweet, and overall just going through the motions, but passable. Aubrey (3516) - Bellingham, Washington, USA - OCT 27, 2002
Big banana/clove aroma with sugary sweet malt flavors. Though, malt seemed a little thin. Some bitterness in the finish, but hops were very subdued. A little too light-bodied, but otherwise pretty tasty. beerguy101 (5360) - Newark, California, USA - OCT 15, 2002
Light gold color, slightly cloudy. Some banana flavor. Light taste. Good flavor. Finish is crisp. Aftertaste is slightly sweet. BillKismet (4103) - Seattle, Washington, USA - AUG 11, 2002
From first glance, that this beer is not an American style hefe is evident. Subtle aroma, but full flavored and a little on the heavy side for a hefe. The body has a slight woody component with the noticeable presence of bananas which adds a delightful component to this beer. An excellently balanced hefeweizen and one that I highly recommend.
