COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Nefarious Nelson is a full bodied, extremely malty ale with some hop bitterness in the background. The very dark color and complex unique flavors are a result of caramel, chocolate, and coffee malts and a substantial amount of roasted barley. This very robust, rich, smooth beer is about 7.0% abv. This beer will be served only in 14oz increments in a Berliner style glass to enhance the drinking pleasure and experience.

Sampler at RAM, Schaumburg. A lot of coffee, kind of a syrupy, almost Kahlua texture. Taste is a quite warming coffee roast, with some cacao nibs. I’m catching a bit of alcohol and a touch of vanilla. This could be something amazing if it were allowed to sit in a barrell for a while.

Tap in Schaumburg. Pours black with a medium, frothy light tan head, medium retention with good lacing. Aroma is heavy malt (toast, chocolate, coffee), no hops, and notes of prunes, dates, and wood. Flavor is heavy malt with roast bitterness. Medium body and carbonation, low warmth and a dry finish.

Pour is black with a thin brown head...smell is roasty and sweet with a lot of chocolatey notes...roasty sweet chocolate flavor...fairly chewy and velvety mouthfeel...hints of bitterness in the finish...

(Ram Restaurant and Brewery, Schaumburg, IL) Draft... DLD’08... Clear black ale with a mid-sized, creamy, light brown head. Wafts of nutty, dark roast coffee and cocoa send my olfactory system into an ascending spin. Medium-bodied with bristly carbonation. Chocolaty with medium sweetness. Balanced decently by charcoal malts and moderately bitter, herbal lupulin. Chocolaty, coffee-dry finish. Surprisingly spot-on stout!

This draft brew from the brewery in Chicago poured a medium sized head of foamy tan colored bubbles that were mostly diminishing and left behind a semi-opaque dark ruby red brown colored body and a fair lacing. The almost non-existant aroma was malty. The semi-thick mouth feel was tingly at the start and at the finish. The mild flavor contained notes of malt hops and roasted malt. A decent one but not one that I would consider buying again.

On tap at Ram - Schaumburg. This was a very pleasant surprise! Poured a beautiful deep brown with a thick, creamy cap of caramel head. Aroma was of deeply-roasted cocoa, coffee, and faint hints of herbal.. full and quite enticing! Flavor had a couple really nice levels of roasted chocolate.. first cocoa, then some darker chocolate.. coffee and faint grassy bitterness was quite complementary.. some dark fruits emerge at the back-end, and were quite welcome. Medium-bodied with nice depth of flavor.. very good mouthfeel.
