COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This is the silver medal winner in the Brown Porter division of the 1996 Great American Beer Festival. The mash temperature is higher to produce body and mouth feel. The 2-row barley base, in addition to a combination of chocolate and carastan malts, gives this beer a smooth, round character with chocolate undertones. Many people who normally don’t drink dark beers will drink this beer.

3.1
GeneralGao (3614) - Iowa City, Iowa, USA - JUL 11, 2006
Draught at the brewpub (Salem, OR location). Clear brown color, red around the edges. Thin white head that laced the glass. Nutty, roasty aroma. A light roastiness came out again in the flavor, but was dominated by a malty chocolate taste. Decent porter.

Jet black ta head Aroma of coffee & roast malt Pal is dry but well coating Flvr is a dry hop lightly balanced by bitter bakers coccoa and coffee Pretty good but a bit small for a porter

3.3
Gr0ve (2176) - Oslo, NORWAY - JUN 19, 2006
Draught at the brewpub. Black, but transparent at the edges. Seems to be clear. Soft and sweet aromas. A little roasted malts in the nose. Mouthfeel is rather thick with a sweet flavour throughout. Full-bodied with a syrupy sweetness balanced by roasted malts. This is by far their best beer. Finish is a good balance of sweetness, roastedness and bitterness. Low in carbonation.

3.2
Oakes (18776) - Vancouver, British Columbia, CANADA - JUN 18, 2006
WBC ’06 winner from the Seattle Ram. Dark brown colour. Light chocolate and rye bread aroma. Mild character still shows some sweet dark chocolates, toast, nuts. It’s a bit tart in the finish, seemingly from the dark malts. Award-winning "Brown Porter" is really structed like a "Robust Porter" but without the hoppiness. Enjoyable.

3.4
