Amber color, clear with a thin head. Good malt aroma with a lingering peat/hops. Malt was roasted with faint peat smoke and toffee added. The hops made for a good balance. Very nice Scottish.
Pint at the brewpub. Poured a hazy amber with little to no carbonation and a small white head. Aroma was peaty, nutty and slightly grassy. A little abnormal aroma for the style I thought. Flavor was malty, quite a bit of cocoa and some peat. I thought this was a pretty solid beer, not sure why the reviews are so lousy. kp (10880) - Woodstock, Georgia, USA - NOV 7, 2009

4oz samples at brewery - Aroma of smokey malts, caramel and toffee. Flavor matches with a touch of fruit in the finish. Palate is sticky. Not bad.

Started well with good caramel maltiness and restrained smoke. However, it petered out quickly, leaving me wanting more of the fullness and rich finish of a fine Scotch Ale. BeerFanDan17 (1121) - Brunswick, Maine, USA - AUG 8, 2009
A very tasty scotch ale. Good blend of smoke and spice... even somewhat nutty. Nice malty finish and true to the style. BillKismet (4137) - Seattle, Washington, USA - JUL 6, 2009
Tangerine amber color with no head and minor dabs of carbonation. Wonderful grainy nose and hints of fruit. Somewhat rough grainy flavor that never really develops further and falls short of expectations. Tannic grain husk finish. alexanderj (3605) - Branson, Missouri, USA - APR 5, 2009
On tap at the brewpub. Color was a muddy auburn. Aroma of fruit and caramel. Flavor was peaty/smoky, earthy, fruity, and caramel. Smoky overall with a hint of hops in the finish. Good beer. anders37 (26987) - Malmö, SWEDEN - DEC 16, 2008
Draft at the brewpub. Pours a dark amber color with a small white head. Has a roasted malty caramel aroma. Roasted malty caramel flavor with some hints of smoke. Has a roasted malty caramel finish with some weak hints of dark fruit in the aftertaste.
