On tap at the brewpub. Pours clear dark copper with a lacy white ring of foam. Soft caramel & peat nose. Medium body, minimal carbonation. Taste of brown sugar, caramel, figs. Dry, earthy/smoky finish. Angeloregon (2055) - Portland, Oregon, USA - APR 20, 2008
Poured a nice amber-copper body with a medium white head. Sweet, peaty malty, mildly hoppy flavor. Well balanced and true to style. Nice offering. One of my favorites from the sampler tray. beerinmarch (2830) - Washington, USA - NOV 25, 2007
On tap at the brewery. Pours dark amber wtih a smooth white head. Long caramel malt flavor, fruity and woody. Great balance and smooth palate. One of the best beers they were serving. BuckeyeBoy (8469) - Boise, Idaho, USA - JUN 25, 2007

The MacStallion I had was not a 90/- but a 5% regular ol’ Scottish. So this brew may very well a different interpretation of the theme each time out, or I had a new brew. Light brown colour, hazy. Fruity, sugary nose. Firm malty character, toasty but maybe not so chewy nor flavourful. JMFG (1587) - Florida, USA - JUL 29, 2006
On tap @ brewpub. Color was a strange (for a Scotch) brown cloudy color more akin to a dunkleweizen. Thin soapy head. Flavor not smoky, not strong. No off flavors, bur little flavor period. I love Scotch Ales, and this one was probably one of the worst I’ve had. harlequinn (2744) - Tacoma, Washington, USA - FEB 27, 2006
Earthy sweaty flavor, sweet maltiness, that tastes almost flat. Flavors are short lived, with some caramel and toffee and bready biscuit notes. Balanced roastiness. DarkElf (3066) - La Jolla, California, USA - AUG 28, 2005
(Draft: Big Horse Brew Pub in Hood River, OR) Not a whole lot of aroma to this Scotch, but it’s packed with flavor. Predominantly sweet and caramely, a mild bitterness lends some balance, and a gentle smokiness comes out in the finsh. After a vigorous swirl, a sweet and caramely nose is coaxed out. Full bodied, coating and slightly sticky on the palate, long-lasting sweetness stays on after the finish. Attractive ruddy brown colored body, with a light-tan, but short-lived head that fades to a small ring and leaves no lacing on the glass. Another solid effort on this Scotch Ale. 11026 (1772) - Alabama, USA - AUG 1, 2005
Tap. Deep ruddy brown with a nice off-white head. Very clear. Good lacing left. Caramel, a touch of smoke generalized medium roasted grains. Medium bodied, quite smooth. Hits the mark with the malt being predominant and just the smallest hints of hop bitterness. LIghtly noticeable smoke, caramel and some chocolate in flavor. Well done.
