12 oz. bottle, consumed on 1-16-17. Pours a clear, dull, medium brown with a moderate amount of light taupe head. The color is uncommon but too dull to wow. Moderate lacing. Hints of chocolate, carob, and lemon in the aroma. Slightly mineral smell. Nothing special in the aroma; if anything slightly below average aroma. Pleasant flavor of chocolate-covered pretzels. Some watermelon and lemon/lime. That lemon/lime element seems out of place and drags down slightly an otherwise pretty good flavor. A bit mineral in taste. Not a ton of flavor, but what’s there is likable, although I like it less upon multiple sips. Light to medium body. Smooth and frothy in the palate. Not as crisp as I would prefer for a lager (ah, now I see that it’s not a lager at all; that explains it). Not un-tasty but nothing special and in a boring style.

12 ounce bottle from Woodman’s in Rockford, IL, consumed a few minutes out of the fridge in a Coors pilsener glass. Dark, fine-bubbled clear amber body, moderate off-white head with some lacing as it decays with slight haste...nose lightly bready/yeasty, with a touch of raisin and toffee, a hint of smoke...very lightly sweet at the front, juicy and faintly fruity, with a drier finish that offers just a touch of bitterness...rather watery body, moderate carbonation. Drinkable (just) but dull - this is one I had to struggle to find much of anything to say about.

Pours a nice hazy brownish orange. Aromas of caramel, hint of fruit and hops. Nice creamy malt taste with a nice hop bitterness.

Aroma of bread, some toffee, and some yeast. Nice deep brown color with a reddish hue and a huge tan head. Really sweet up front. Toffee and bread, but overwhelming sweetness initially. Bitterness cuts in some, spicy, earthy. Finish is dry and bitter with a spicy echo...almost like cinnamon.. Slightly watery mouth feel. Average.

Pours a clear dark Amber color with a small head and spotty lacing. Aroma of roasted malt, bit of dark fruit and citrus.. Taste of roasted malt, caramel sweetness, bit of dark fruit and spice. Mild bitterness and a clean finish. Moderate body with a smooth feel. Nice beer that goes down easy.

On tap at Hwy 40 Brews. It poured a dark brown color with a white head. The aroma was of roasted malts and chocolate. The taste was similar to the aroma with dark malts and more chocolate. Good stuff.

UPDATED: JUN 30, 2015 The beer pours a very clear copper color with a small white head. The aroma is almost only toasted malts, but the is some butter sweet malts there as well; the taste is mildly sweet and a touch umami with not too much exciting the tongue in the aftertaste. The palate fuses a soft carbonation, light body, and slick texture. Overall, it is a bit one dimensional, and it could’ve had some nice depth.

UPDATED: DEC 8, 2015 A friend handpicked this beer as one of three fillers for a six pack to bring back to me in Hong Kong. I like to try different beers from different brewers but to be honest, the packaging is not all that attractive to me, and I probably would not have picked this off the shelf. Poured the 12oz bottle into a pint glass. It poured a clear dark rusty amber colour with a one finger head that dissipates quickly and no lacing. Smells of malt, maybe plum and apple, but a hint of metallic at the end ruined it. Taste was a bit light and thin. It was like watered down plum juice with an unfortunate light metallic aftertaste. But it went down easy with medium carbonation. Overall it’s not bad and it feels great in my mouth, but the flavours could be more pronounced and the beer would improve plenty without the metallic smell and taste that lingers at the end.

[Bottle] Pours a clear dark amber color with a fizzy beige head. Light nose of yeast, caramel and sweet malts. Notes of caramel, toasted bread, raisins, light roast and cocoa in the taste. Average body and dry finish.
