Based after the great English style this beers’ characteristically deep amber colour is derived from generous amounts of Hugh Bairds Crystalized barley that also gives it a smooth caramel toffee flavour that is balanced with generous amount of whole leaf hop imported from East Kent. Keg at Big Rig Brewery, Ottawa (as Big Rig Extra Special Bitter, 5.6%) Clear bronze colour, small head. Fruity caramelly nose with pears and toast. Mid dry with medium body and rounded mouthfeel. Toasty and grainy, pears and spice. Mid bitter finish.

Tried this one as a small 6oz. taster, along with a few others at the brewpub. Has a very thin, almsot non existant amount of head, which goes away quickly. Has a dark amber/coppery appearance. Aromas of light malts and grains. Also herbal type hops. Flavours are mainly light roasted malts and nuts, somewhat wheaty and grainy, also grassy hops. Mouthfeel is slightly tingly, a little bit bitter and watery. Pretty good, well balanced medium bodied beer.

Where and how: OBA 2015
Aroma hinted with butter-scotch, bready malty feel with proper British vibe.
Appearance :
Top: medium cap.
Base: amber with hints of red.
Palate : milder, mid bodied ale.
Taste: decent, could have more refreshing qualities that some bitter ales have. Hop noted tad muted.
other notes decent choice.

tap on the premises. clear medium dark amber reddish with a small off-white head, little retention and nice spotty lacing. nutty and dry fruity malts, toasted cereals and caramel, hint of lightly tart fruits, pepper and other spices, herbal and grassy leafiness, sulfur - fairly present, lightly piney presence. average carbonation, light body, slightly earthy and grassy with a citrus tingling bite finish. above average esb. tasty.

Decent bitter. Pours reddish amber. Average carbonation. Good for style, with balanced hop and malt. Actually a nice full palate, especially on finish. Even a faint hint of smokiness or something. Tap at brewpub.

Pours dirty brown with a small white head. Aroma is caramel and earthy malts. Taste is malty sweetness, some caramel and earthy grains. Good beer but perhaps a bit sweet formy tastes.

Metalchopz (3474) - Cantley, Quebec, CANADA - MAR 6, 2013
Growler from the brewpub. Pours a hazy amber colour with a nice off-white head that stays long and gives out great lacing. Beautiful nose of grainy cereals and caramel to balance things. Medium-bodied with a oily mouthfeel. The hop shows up in the taste, creating a little bitterness over the caramel malt with some grass. The grain and fruit come out in the finish. I seem to prefer this ESB to the Mill Street Father John’s one I had a few days ago.

Lubiere (14133) - Ottawa, Ontario, CANADA - NOV 27, 2012
A dark reddish amber ale with a thin off white head. In aroma, a grainy nutty malt with faint grassy hops, boring. In mouth, a grassy nutty malt with light boiled veggies, faint hops, boring. On tap at Big Rig, Oct. 22 2012.

rejtable (2819) - Ontario, CANADA - OCT 29, 2012
My favourite Big Rig beer so far. From brewpub from cask. Pours breakfast tea with no head and minimal lacing. Nose is muted. Aromas of plums, brown bread, maybe a hint of butterscotch. Taste is medium sweet with really nice bitter finish. Medium body with light carbonation.
