Thin but sufficiently roasty, with a light, almost seltzer-like opening before the toasty dark malts kick in. Nothing great, but might soothe a dark beer jones in a pinch.

boto (2263) - Granby, Connecticut, USA - DEC 3, 2016
Draught in Chattanooga: It pours a clear, but very dark ruby tinged brown. There was a thin tan head that left some lacing. The aroma is good. Caramel malts, toffee, coffee and some roasted malts. A hint of spice. Taste is good. Similar to aroma, but with some bitterness thrown in. A good balance.

chinchill (5309) - South Carolina, USA - NOV 26, 2016
On tap at the brewpub in Chattanooga. Lovely clear mahogany body with a good head and some sticky lacing. Mild aroma featuring sweet malts. Flavor: lots of toffee. Excellent sweet-bitter balance.

Tap. Nice dark brown color, almost black. Tan head. Roasted grains, chocolate aroma. Taste is toast. Roasted grain, chocolate.

tonyth1965 (39) - Illinois, USA - DEC 14, 2013
On tap at Red Robin in Chattanooga. Even though it’s a lager, this beer has plenty of body and bigger mouthfeel that I would normally associate with a darker ale. This is the third offering of the weekend from Big River, and they’ve all been solid.

3.4
Shag (3045) - Chattanooga, Tennessee, USA - JAN 3, 2013
A dark brown color with a beige head. Aroma contains some chocolate and caramel both faint. Flavor is somewhat malty with caramel, chocolate, and some raisins. Finish is a bit dry with some sour notes. Overall a pretty good lager.

3.3
nearbeer (5599) - Knoxville, Tennessee, USA - DEC 17, 2012
Pint on tap. Opaque chocolate with a lasting film of creamy bubbles. Mild nose of coffee, berries, and dry cocoa. Taste is a meld of dry cocoa, dark toasted walnut, coffee, pith and a touch of tart berry. Medium body is smooth and well balanced.
