Rather big head but disguised in the big snifter. Just too complex for me to pick out all the flavors. Sweet as in cherries with a hint of vanilla and some muted alcohol. Borders on syrupy. Very drinkable and not just for a Russian imperial stout. So perfect after a good meal.

Pours weak copper brown with one finger of sandstone head. Nose is out there, smells like musty overripe grapefruit and sour bourbon. Man its weird. Tastes weird too, fancy that. Caramel and vanilla. No roast or chocolate. Tannin bite and alcoholic bite.

12oz bottle huge thanks to thirdeye11 - 2009 vintage. Dark near black pour with a slight tan head. Huge bourbon aroma with roasted malt, maple, and lots of chocolate. Bit of alcoholic heat but crazy drinkable at 12% - flavors of wood, vanilla, and fudge.

Growler generously shared by Sean at 3F. Dark brown pour with a mocha head. Big bourbon nose. All kinds of smooth bourbon, dark roasted malts, baker’s chocolate, a little bitterness (maybe from the hops), and some molasses flavors. Good stuff, thanks IIB.

Bomber thanks to the sarro crew. Appearance: Black pour with no head. Aroma: Lots of molasses, chocolate and vanilla, slightly diacetyl and fudge. Taste: Quite sweet, lots of molasses. Generic big stout. Palate: Heavy bodied, med carbonation and creamy. Overall: good stout but I didn’t find the bourbon.

I do believe it was dak who set me up with this 09 bottle. Lots of tobacco and high boozy alcohol. Not much head or lace. Taste sharp alcohol sweetness bite. Malty and sharp. Not one of those smooth mellow stouts. Nice.

brokensail (16633) - Dublin, California, USA - OCT 8, 2011
A: The beer pours almost black in color with a small off-white head. S: Absolutely smells like a glass of bourbon. Intense bourbon and booze aroma with a bit of vanilla and oak. There is a bit of actual roast and dark chocolate to it, too. T: The flavor is fairly intensely bourbony/boozy, too. There is a strong dark fruit aroma, mostly from the booze. A bit of charred oak and vanilla, and some booze. There is just a little bit of roasted malt and chocolate. And booze. M: Medium bodied with low to medium carbonation. O: Definitely boozy, but pretty decent flavors and aromas.
