UPDATED: DEC 15, 2008 750mL unlabelled bottle. Nice citrus flesh aroma. Good spice and floral character. Great saison character. Pours a clearish bright gold, with a rim of white. Flavor is a bit of a washed out, acerbic grass and spice. Super, super dry. Tart and curt. Nice. Fresh and light. Malts are a bit light and eaten up, but the spiced character works well. So fresh, dry and hoppy. This is excruciatingly drinkable. Effervescent. Minerals back up the spice. Excellent. A very nice saison. I love the ridiculous dryness matching the saison yeast. Thanks Sean! theisti (4175) - Kansas, USA - JAN 14, 2009
22 oz bottle shared by bvc. Hand bottled by the brewery 12/08, according to the label. Pour is cloudy orange yellow with a one inch white head. A couple of floaties ensure that this has not been filtered one iota. Pretty in the glass. Aroma of soft floral earthiness and funky sour barnyard. Gorgeous nose. Taste is earthy, straw, lemon citrus and funk. Really diverse and layered flavors. Some sweetness present. Thanks for sharing this gem Brandon. puzzl (3260) - New York, New York, USA - FEB 14, 2009
Bottle from Eyedrinkale. Drank this after a big pour of McKenzie’s new Organic Saison, which was a great point of comparison between the two most prevalent "styles" of saison out there. Whereas that one is in the Dupont vein, this one follows Fantome, which a crazy, funky, tart-ish and super fruity aroma, reeking of cheese and animal and all that great stuff. Murky too, true to style, with a thick, soupy mouthfeel, complete with herbal milky yeasty funk in the finish. I’ve always been more a fan of the Fantomes, and this is right up there with the best of them. Great effort. SoLan (1550) - Florida, USA - MAR 21, 2009
Courtesy miketd and northernbrews. Hazy gold with a white head. Big kick of brett funk, fruity, floral, spicy, crisp, and a little sour twang. Medium body, well carbonated, with a very dry finish. Great under the radar bretted saison that I could drink all day long. Pailhead (6543) - Rochester Hills, Michigan, USA - AUG 8, 2007
On tap: The aroma is a combination of bretty lemon sourness with some light apple and faint yeastiness. It’s a hazy gold with a small white head. The flavor starts with a quick yeastiness with some apple in the background. The finish has some mild tart lemon with some light floral notes. Very refreshng. Overall, I was very impressed with Big Rock at the MiBGF ’07.

UPDATED: NOV 19, 2009 Very pale golden pour. The nose is quite sticky with a bit of pineapple. Cheesey with a nice fruity yeastiness. The flavour is really incredible. Rich and fruity with a nice blend of pineapple, melon, apple and pear over a touch of pale malt character. There is a nice light tartness toward the finish with a great balance of fruit and yeast. It’s not as dry as it could be but the yeast has so much character that I can overlook it.
Bottle shared by goldtwins. Pale golden straw coloured beer. Aroma is quite unusual and fairly sour/lactic. Strong grassy aroma, peach, apricot and pineapple over the soft dry bretty character. Very flinty/minerally bretty flavour with just a kiss of soft fruitiness on the flavour. There is a kiss of cotton candy and candi sugar. The beer actually tastes much sweeter than I would have imagined based on the tartness of the aroma. Quite herbal and spicy flavour on the back. It’s got a little bit of dusty and a touch of herbal/minty hops. It’s quite nice really.

UPDATED: OCT 2, 2009 22oz bottle acquired in a trade. Poured medium and slightly hazy yellow color with a smaller sized white head. Aromas of citrus, some funkiness, some spices, and some sour cherries. Tastes of citrus, sour cherries, fruity, lighter spices, and some grains. Lively body that leaves dry. Light sour finish. A little vinous as well. Nice. after4ever (8025) - Mukilteo, Washington, USA - JAN 14, 2009
22, hand bottle, courtesy the infinite fine hosting of BVC. Thanks, man! Pours a cloudy toffee-like light amber that ranges in highlights from golden to orange, depending on how many floaties you get in the glass. Dense, creamy tan head you could probably use as theatrical makeup adhesive. Big floral nose, almost perfumey, that picks up a little bretty barnyard funk as it warms. Gorgeous, delectable nose. Creamy, tightly fizzy medium body, just perfectly placed. Lemon, funk, floral notes, grass, and a bit of hay on the mid-palate, all right where you want it. Great saison. goldtwins (4320) - Nesconset, New York, USA - FEB 5, 2009
Thanks Hoppymeal. Poured a hazy gold color with a thin head. Wheaty lemon citrus aroma. Yeasty notes with a light spice. Light dusty leather and barnyard in the back. The flavor had a mild tartness with a lemon citrus. The finish is semi-dry and light on the tongue. Lively mouthfeel.
