Reviewed from notes. The appearance was a mahogany color with a sly transparency about it. Finger’s worth of white foamy head sat atop of the beer and fell off at a good pace. Stringy lace. The aroma had some clean butterscotch, nice caramel/toffee malts, some nuts with a touch of roast and had some grassy/herbal hops. The flavor leaned into the maltiness cleverly allowing some hints of earth, bubblegum and wood. Aftertaste copied the initial sips. Finish was the same as well. The feel was about medium bodied with a fair sessionability about it. Carbonation felt good. ABV felt good as the brewer projected. Overall, I think I liked this for me, but the untrained palate will probably think this is a malt bomb. As a scotch ale, well, it’s a bit maltier than wanted. True fans might not even like this one so much.

On tap @ BRCH. Pours a deep copper color with a medium fine beige head. The aroma, well let’s just say this was may only disappointment of the night. Before the glass even made it close to my nose I could pick up the butterscotch. I don’t know how old this was, but it has become a diacetyl bomb. I tried to taste it anyway and was rewarded? with a thin, somewhat malty, butterscotch mess. I could not finish the pint.

Dark amber/brown with off-white head. Strange fruity esters up front, before the malt smell over. Has a caramel flavor with smokey taste taking over through the middle and finish. A dry finish, not my favorite.

on tap at BRCH. Solid Scotch. Pours darker maroon amber. Peaty, choclate, toffee nose. Taste follows up the great aroma. Nice heavier mouthfeel. Nice malt sweetness to counteract the peat, light smoke. Solid

A true dream.. a noble ale, best I’ve had in style. Strong malt character and a light roasted feel make this crisp, clean beer truly noble. Highly recommended. [Big Rock was a duper pleasant surprise., my guess is that they will underwhelm in a large beerfest or drinking night, as their subtlety will be outmuscled. But today, this beer was dead on!!!]

7-22-06 MBG. Dark mahogany/brown with off-white head. Faint fruity esters up front, before huge smoked/peat malt character takes over. Flavor has a nice caramel/toffee base with smoke/peat taking over through the middle and finish. Residuel sugar/resin aftertaste. Another nice brew from Big Rock.

Tap at MBG fest ’06. Medium brown colore, light opacity. Yeasty/malty aroma, fairly rich. Medium bodied. Malty with light roast flavor. A bit thin in middle and finish but quite passable.

This draft brew from a festival poured a small sized head of foamy fine to medium sized light tan colored bubbles that was mostly diminishing and left behind a and a fair lacing. The mild aroma was malty mildly vinous and sweet. The mouth feel was weakly tingly at the start and at the finish. The weak flavor contained notes of malt and sweet. A decent one but not one that I would consider buying again.

Ivory small head that mostly dimiinished, sparse lacing, transparent, and an orange brown hue. Nose was malty, caramel, sweet and yes some hints of scotch. Ditto for the flavor with the alcohol duly noted, but not overly done. Smooth palate. Light-medium body. Quaffable and I would partake in this one again.
