Comfort Food in a Glass
According to the poem, there is a corner of a foreign field that is forever England. Since 1985, we’ve been turning many Albertan fields into one of England’s favourite drinks, brown ale. The go-to favourite for many, it’s become something of a legend.

Little Known Fact
One of our original three craft brews, Traditional was also one of the first English-style brown ales ever brewed in Canada... it’s still our best-known beer today.

Can. An alluring chestnut brown with dark red highlights around the rim of the glass. Nice aromas of butter, dark roasted malt, molasses and a general creamy nuttiness. Buttery smooth mouthfeel. Big, deep malt flavours followed by nuts, caramel, toffee and a minor cherry accent. Rich and rewarding.

Tasted while on vacation in Edmonton, Alberta. 12-ounce bottle pours clear amber with no head and a spritz of light tan lacing. Aroma: brown sugar, nuts. Flavor: malt-forward with the above flavors plus an odd wet newspaper taste. Mouthfeel: medium-bodied.

Pretty much the only beer I buy, stock in house, and drink regularly. The beer to which I compare all others. Don’t take my Trad away!

This was my go to dark beer in Alberta for a number of reasons. Mainly for easy availability in the local establishments. A decent darker beer but not a great beer.

Great everyday easy drinking beer. Very clear copper colour. Sweet caramel taste. Not really a standard brown ale, more of an american style ale. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Not a bad brown ale. Has a sweet caramel flavour, some roasted malts and a toasty nuttiness.

330 ml bottle. Pours a clear, reddish brown with a thin, beige head. Sweet caramel malt aroma with a faint nutty note. Sweet flavour of roasted malt, caramel and nuts with a dry finish. Medium body with a watery texture and average carbonation.

Pours clear medium amber with one finger of light tan head diminishing gradually to a thin skim, spotty lacing. (4/5) Nose is caramel with hints of toffee, grainy malt, mild fruit and nuttiness. (6/10) Taste is moderate sweet, mild bitter. (6/10) Medium to light bodied, moderate carbonation, dry finish. (3/5) “Boring” might be a little harsh, but I’m not sure how better to describe it. “Straightforward”? “Unremarkable”? It’s a little light for the style, but there are no other negatives. Very drinkable and - speaking from experience - sessionable. (Just because this is the first time I’ve officially reviewed it, doesn’t mean it’s the first time I’ve drunk it!) (12/20)
