Taste is a nice mix of dark fruit with figs, plums, raisins, hints of caramel and earth notes, finishing fairly dry, slightly boozy, nice finish. cubs (10693) - Fort Collins, Colorado, USA - FEB 8, 2012
Bottle @ home. Cloudy, reddish brown appearance with a light brown head. Slightly dusty, rich caramel, candy sugar, toasty, dark fruity, Belgian yeasty aroma. Pretty rich, toasty caramel malty, dark candy sugar, black licorice, plum, red grape, raisin flavor. Black licorice, raisin aftertaste. Overall, pretty solid brew but also pretty sweet. Thanks to Bob for the 750mL bottle! Poured clear, medium garnety-brown with a toasted marshmallow head. The aroma picked up toasty raisins, figs, and dates with accents of vanilla and fruity/oaky sourness.. black pepper and crusty bread in there too.. balance was alright, but the sour character was a little too pervasive. The flavor opened tart with Sweet Tart-like dark fruits.. bready notes, molasses, and vinous notes rode higher carbonation onto the middle.. dry and spicy around and through the finish. Medium-bodied with filling carbonation on the palate.. tangy.. a bit too filling.. overall a solid brew. Suttree (6484) - Knoxville, Tennessee, USA - AUG 22, 2011
Bottle 687 of 1800. Coppery brown, big loose white head. Smells nice - cinnamon, caramel, a few other holiday aromas. Palate is a little watery. Flavor is a nice mix of smooth sweetness, some herbal notes, and some piney flavors. IrishBoy (4228) - Bakersfield, California, USA - DEC 25, 2010
750 ml bottle (978/1800) from Ledgers. Nose is candi sugar, yeast, and raisins.Clear brown with a small beige head. Flavor is light sweet, lightly bitter, a hint of maple and pepper. Not nearly as good as SBA 12 and more expensive. boFNjackson (4201) - Portland, Oregon, USA - NOV 14, 2010
UPDATED: JAN 22, 2011 Bottle shared at a recent BA/RB tasting [2009 Vintage]... Poured amber/reddish with a tan head. Vanilla, oak, sugary malts. Still a slight boozy tone after a year, but it really melded nicely with candied caramel, and toast toffee flavors. Grovlam (4252) - Copenhagen, DENMARK - MAY 23, 2010
20 Blind tasting at Papsoe 27-03-2010:
Bottle. Huge bubbly beige head that mostly lasted. Excellent display of lacework. Mahogany color. Aroma of fruity, citrus, hint of spice, grain, dusty feel. Medium bodied with an average carbonation and light dry texture. Moderated sweet and bitter flavor. Light lingering dry and mild bitter finish.
