3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Gold Foil Capped 750 ml 2011 Bottle #755/1800. Mahogany colored in appearance with a substantial cap of tan foam. Lots of caramel, figs, prunes and molasses in the aroma as well as some yeast funk around the edges. The taste is loaded up front with notes of brown sugar, raisins, dates and black cherries in addition to some vanilla, maple and allspice notes toward the end. The body is thick and creamy with moderate carbonation while the finish serves up a final dose of malt, dark fruits and booze. Overall, a quality holiday sipping beer that tastes something like a Belgian Strong Dark Ale crossed with a Barley Wine.
Smells strongly of cinnamon and clove. Spicy and tastes like it’s alcohol content. It’s fun but not especially good. JohnGalt1 (1721) - Boise, Idaho, USA - AUG 24, 2016
Fairly clear dark walnut brew... short lasting head... no real lacing or cap. adamnowek (3411) - Brussels, BELGIUM - AUG 12, 2016
Nose is nice.. fairly rich mix of dark toasty malt.. caramel.. Belgian qualities are a little light leaning toward golden raisin, lighter dried cherries, and some figgy notes.. Nothing is wrong, aromas just lean toward the lighter side.
Flavor is about the same... all nasal notes are amplified, but are still a bit light to be a great BSDA... also seems to be more sweet than should be.. not quite enough bitterness to balance.
Really interesting whiskey colour that’s more murky than hazy. Aroma is cherry, toffee, and caramel. Taste is slightly malty with some whiskey. dnstone (3592) - Kansas City, Missouri, USA - JUN 26, 2016
UPDATED: JUL 28, 2016 A nice malty ale with cherry notes and a strong sweetness; boozy, the cherry flavors boarder on medicinal. Deep brown in color. tmalaher (309) - Calgary, Alberta, CANADA - MAR 31, 2016
Notes: ’12 vintage on tap at the ’15 Denver Rare Beer Tasting
Also had this at the ’14 Denver Rare Beer Tasting as the ’12 vintage, barrel aged:
Scored: 8/4/7/3/18 - Had defined boozy yet balanced, vanilla, caramel, coconut aromas and flavors.
Nice basic beer with reasonable spicing. Nice as a special Christmas beer. A whole bottle is hard to drink

2015 vintage (10.1% abv) single 355 ml bottle from broken-up holiday cases from Sobeys Liquor, served in a funky Dos Equis glass. Pours a shade of amber similar to dilute cola, with many fine streams of carbonation, and a light tan head topped with bubbles like just-poured milk, and generous lacy lace. Delivers a big aroma of candy, clove, bubblegum, banana and other very ripe tropical fruit, and what I interpret as fragrant wood. The warming is instantaneous with the sip; as I go, softer candy, spice, and tropical fruits, wood, some toast, and even a little more heat to govern my intake of this Yuletide bruiser. Thick, and a moderate lingerer on the palate. Not my style of Christmas ale, but seems to be executed well and befitting the season, as I finished it happily enough. What will 2016 bring? Backlog from the Brony Bottle Share at Travlr’s. Amber with small beige head. Brown sugar, candy, dark fruit, caramel malt, toffee, spice. Reminiscent of St. Bernardus Christmas, but not up to that standard. Ernesto987 (6050) - Arizona, USA - DEC 28, 2015
Poured by the brewer himself. Big sticky spiced strong ale. Moderate to light belgian yeast (quag) flavors. Tasty and grand. Tons going on, molasses, sugar, cinnamon, plums. A very slow sipper. Some oxidation (cardboardy-bread) from aging. bdleedahl (602) - , Saskatchewan, CANADA - DEC 15, 2015
2015 beer advent. Nice belgian yeast flavour, cleanly brewed with relatively light body for the 10% alcohol. Mild xmas spices in perfect quantity to compliment the belgian flavour.

Deep, reddish amber in colour. Minimal off white head, no lacing. Aroma of nutmeg, molasses, candied fruit, gingerbread, cinnamon. Taste is sweet, earthy, hints of plum, cinnamon, and apple. Full bodied, thick, viscous, and oily. Finishes with a lingering sweetness, some heat as a result of the high alcohol content. Pleasantly complex and well executed.
