3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Pours dark with a full medium tan head that hangs around for a while. This has lots of tastes going on: starts with chocolate, then transitions though roasted malt, coffee, a little vanilla adds smoothness. The finish, like the start is chocolate. Some nice hops but not overbearing. An affable drink, if you like chocolate in your porter Bobo will make you smile.
This was poured into a becher pint glass.
The appearance was a black color with a finger’s worth of off white foamy head that fell off at a decent pace. Sly messy lace.
The aroma had some roasted coffee beans, subtle grounds, light wood, some earthiness, dried leaf, some hay and just a touch of vanilla at the very end.
The flavor was roasty and sweet combining it all fairly nice and added a touch of clean caramel malt. Aftertaste slightly leaned closer to the roastiness. Finish was somewhat dry and roasty.
The palate was almost medium bodied, sitting just a tad under and having a decent sessionable sort of smooth feel along my tongue. Carbonation felt fine. ABV felt fine.
Overall, pretty nice porter that I could have again. RobertDale (6755) - Lansing, Kansas, USA - MAY 18, 2015

"a nice offering from Big Sky, if not one of their best (i’ll hafta check)...definitely one of the better 6-packs. aroma and flavor robust as advertised, mainly roast & chocolate, with hints of smoke, licorice and maybe coffee. not bad on the feel either." jebert (500) - Watertown, Wisconsin, USA - JUL 23, 2014
Pours an opaque black with a finger sized head of creamy brown foam. Nose is of malt and chocolate. Very creamy on the palate with a fairly thick viscosity. Taste is full of chocolate, coffee, malt, toffee. A hint of hops on the finish. An excellent porter that pairs well with smoked chicken. rondphoto (4490) - Lakeside Park, Kentucky, USA - JUN 28, 2014
@ John’s Grocery / Iowa City IA --- Opaque black color, steady 1" dark tan head, foamy bands of lace. Taste is full-bodied roasted malt that adds caramel early and coffee/chocolate late in the palate, before yielding to a bitter edge for good balance in the finish. This is a porter with a really big body that is nearly overwhelming on a hot day. Probably better on a cool evening. lb4lb (2629) - Austin, Texas, USA - JUN 1, 2014
Pours dark black with light tan head. Smell is roast acidic coffee and charred malt with a light milky scent. Taste is roasty malt, coffee, chocolate and pretty smooth malt and slightly short of burnt with a faint milky creaminess. Medium body and highly drinkable. Medium prickly carbonation. The flavor is spot on as is the body and carbonation. One of the better porters I?ve had. troyc (2869) - Illinois, USA - MAY 27, 2014
[Bottle] Deep brown pour with a rocky light brown cap on top. Milk chocolate, burnt caramel and distinct vanilla notes in the nose. Taste is of mocha, dark chocolate and heavy roasted malts. Mild herbal hops and astringent grains in the finish. Chalky mouthfeel. Tasting notes from early 2012.
