3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Can't get much crisper of a taste & more of a sweet & hardy malt flavor than this beer. Quite possibly one of the best (at least one of my favorite) brown ales. Might not be my favorite style if beer, but definitely one of the best in the category. Definite tastes of caramel, browned crystal malts & dates. Fairly smooth with a well blended alcohol, even thorough it's not a ton, being 5.1%.

From the bottle, also at the Beartooth Cafe in Cooke City. Pours brown and leaves a thick, foamy head. Aroma is nutty. Taste is sweet, nutty, with a light apple tang near the finish. Dragged down by light metallic notes, but otherwise good. nathanvc (508) - Brugge, BELGIUM - JUL 15, 2017
At Beartooth Cafe, Cooke City. Pours hazy dark amber/brown with a diminishing, brown head. The aroma contains caramel, malt, hay, hops and bread. It tastes medium sweet and light bitter with a dry finish. Medium body, slick texture, fizzy carbonation. Drinkable yet nothing special. tokey77 (3) - - JUN 21, 2017 does not count
Nice dark and rich colour. Flavour has nutty hints a chocolate. Would buy this again.

When in Big Sky country do as the Big Skyers do. Purchased as a 12 oz bottle at the Canyon Lodge store in Yellowstone. A pour into the finest quality plastic cup available delivers a dark brown body followed by a tall, brown egg colored foam. The nose gives up malt and straw. With a drink I get more of the malt, significant hoppiness and a roasted nuts finish. Decent but brown ales are way down on the list for me. jsmerig (1590) - Pennsylvania, USA - MAY 2, 2017
Pours a deep dark ruby reddish brown with a white head. Aroma of grape and dark malt. Taste is malt forward with a note of maple syrup with a slight oak note followed and finished by earthy hops.

Tap at Hops on Birch. Flagstaff. Colour is clear dark brown with small white head. Aromas and flavors: Some chocolate, some harshness and malts. Watery and boring. 78samh (287) - Olympia, Washington, USA - FEB 6, 2017
12 oz bottle pours dark, clear brown with a tan sudsy head. Aroma is malty and sweet. Some bready malts, brown sugar like sweetness. Easy crisp finish. Good brown ale. john44 (3101) - SW London, Greater London, ENGLAND - FEB 1, 2017
Bottle. Dark Brown in colour. Malty; roasty malts, caramel, chocolate, nuts. Hoppy; spicy hops. Sweet roast malty throughout with spicy hop edge. Dry in the finish. Very easy drinking. Decent. (2010-09)

Not bad, but a bit watery tasting. No obvious aroma, slight malty taste with tiny hint of spice. (K) PugUglyBrewer (663) - - JAN 9, 2017
Mahogany color with a fluffy tan head of foam. Roasted malt and nutty and sweet malt aromas and flavors. Sweet caramel complexity with a sweet and spicy hop finish.
