Hints of cherry, apple, and alchohol in the aroma. dark amber with average head, leaves some lacing on the glass. Thick and malty like a barleywine, surprisingly hoppy. Similiar to Bridgeport's ebenezer which I also have lying around, but stronger and more complex. Vastly underrated, the best beer I've had from Big Sky so far. nice sweet malty aroma, kind of spicy, pours dark red with thick foamy head, exceptionally smooth and creamy taste, very well balanced, rich and tasty, sweet and spicy, second best winter brew I’ve had this season. Winterbraun was a little better. BeerAteHer (384) - St. Paul, Minnesota, USA - JAN 15, 2005
I respect this ale because it’s essentially what it purports to be: a good beer to drink in the "Dog Days of Winter". Coming from Minnesota, it’s been near or below zero for the past few days. I find that, like Powder Hound’s description implies, it’s warming yet not so full bodied that it saps one’s energy. Color is a mix of gold and copper. Aroma is very malty and much like strawberry Turkish Taffy. Flavor is deep, dark malty and bready with a ample amount of hops showing through as well. Linger is surprisingly bitter-hoppy. This is a great winter beer. JahNoth (1039) - Rochester, New York, USA - DEC 14, 2007
Funky English hop aroma with some toffee malt. Chestnut red in color with little head. Interesting array of malts here - crystal, some deep roasted, mixing with some UK hops. A real nice quaffer. Cletus (6368) - Connecticut, USA - FEB 8, 2009
Bottle courtesy of douglas88. Pours brown/copper with a thin tan head. Smells of caramel, nutty, earthy, fruity. Tastes of caramel, raisins, spicy, some fruity hints on the finish.

I would enjoy this several more times. It tastes great and goes down smooth. wlajwl (7065) - Quad Cities, Iowa, USA - MAR 13, 2012
Aroma and flavor is mildly sweetish caramel malts and a decent hoppiness in finish. Pretty good ale, easy to drink but with a decent thickness and body. NeonLX (261) - Wisconsin, USA - FEB 23, 2005
Poured from a bottle: Nice, rich & nutty aroma. Copper-colored with ruby edges. Decent tan head that settles into a good lacing. Initial taste is nutty toffee followed by mild hopping. Full mouthfeel and "just right" carbonation. This brew is very good.
