3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
12 oz bottle. Pours a nice, crystal-clear goldenrod color, foamy, pearly head as well. Some lacing. Aroma is nice floral hops, some sweet banana as well. Flavor is very bitter hops with an alcohol backside. Not a very complex flavor, but strong. Palate feels a bit thin for a strong ale. Overall though, I enjoyed this.
Winter Ale or English Strong Ale? Who knows, who cares! It's a good beer. A great seasonal. Bill Becker (2009) - Casper, Wyoming, USA - OCT 31, 2017

Purchased as part of a sampler pack.
This beer pours from 12oz bottle a clear deep amber with a 1 finger head of foam that shrinks to some spotting and a ring around the glass.
The smell has notes of caramel malt and a bit of spice.
The taste has a good caramel malt flavour up front followed by a bit of spice and some citrus hops and an earthy backbone that kind of throws the flavours out of whack. A few more sips in and that earthy flavour now dominates the flavour; too bad because I think this had potential to be a good winter ale and pretty darned drinkable but as is, I won't look for it again. Pretty messy, imho. chinchill (5377) - South Carolina, USA - JUN 23, 2017
12 oz can in Yellowstone NP.
Clear copper body topped by a bone colored head.
Floral and spicy hops in the aroma.
The flavor follows but is more spicy and less floral.
Medium body with medium carbonation.

12 oz. bottle. 7.2% ABV. Poured clear amber, lasting frothy off white head. Aroma was pine, wet forest floor, sweet grapefruit. Taste was moderate bittersweet, grapefruit, earthy, malty, toasted bread. wombat23 (2147) - Texas, USA - MAR 1, 2017
Shared 12 oz. bottle. Pours clear gold with a white head. Aroma of light malts and mild fruitiness. Taste follows nose, with some biscuit and hay. Finish is mildly sweet, mildly bitter. A fairly bland beer overall - was expecting something with more personality given it’s labeled as a winter ale.

Aroma: malty and sweet; Appearance: clear golden pour with thin white head that lingers; Taste: follows nose with purfumey notes and biscuity finish; Palate: medium body; Overall: not my favorite style but decent interpretation. tmoreau (4743) - Lombard, Illinois, USA - FEB 28, 2017
12 oz. can poured to a Czech-pils glass at home, displaying a clear & bright, orangey/gold, almost amber color, with a fluffy layer of off white froth, and foamy, spiraling lacing. The nose was malty & fruity sweetness, pit & dried fruit, with a bit of citrus, and a slight hint of rusty/metallic scent. The taste added a pronounced & lingering, rind-like, earthy, and slightly resinous bitterness that came off a little harsh at first, was intensified by the alcohol, and then mellowed a bit by the continuing malt & fruit sweetness. Medium bodied, with good carbonation. Not bad. I’d carry it in my survival bottle to take the frost off. 7.2% on the label. Iphonephan (7482) - Jackson Hole/McLean, Virginia, USA - FEB 15, 2016
From a 12 oz can in Jackson Hole. Pours a clear gold with an off white head. Caramel nose. Flavors of pine and toffee. Bitter finish. beertholomeus (1814) - California, USA - JAN 8, 2016
Pours a pale golden color with a white head. Hop, floral, caramel, pine and biscuit aroma and flavors. Medium full body with moderate carbonation and a hop, biscuit and mils booze finish. MNAle (234) - Minnesota, USA - JAN 6, 2016
281151 020516 stamped; consumed on 1/05 and 1/06/16. Golden color, clear, well carbonated. 1/2 inch off-white creamy head that recedes fairly quickly, leaving some lacing. Nice hop aroma, faintly spicy, hint of citrus. Mild initial taste with a well established malt backbone with subtle hop flavor. Appropriate mouth feel for the style, tending toward slightly thicker than expected. Very well balanced, with a moderate level of bittering in the finish. This is not a hop-forward ale, but neither is it an overly malty ale. Well balanced, no booziness even at 7.2% ABV, but don’t expect a big, WOW flavor profile. Easy drinking, pleasamt and enjoyable for a winter evening.
