RATINGS: 126   WEIGHTED AVG: 3.09/5   SEASONAL: Winter   IBU: 30   EST. CALORIES: 126   ABV: 4.2%
Pygmy Owl is an IPA with full fledged hop taste and aroma, yet is remarkably low in alcohol. In fact, it clocks in at only 4.2% ABV. An IPA with full flavor, but without the harsh bitterness. And the best part, you can have more than one without getting that drunkied up feeling.
Availability: February-April

Thanks Frank. This was poured into a becher pint glass. The appearance was a cloudy burnt yellow slightly gold color casting a subtle finger’s worth of white foamy head. Some messy lace. The aroma had some peach/apricot sweetness up front with some lemon crisp pulpy sweetness and a sly amount of juice. Light grassiness at the end. The flavor took the prior mentioned aromas and added in a little bit of piney hop bitterness. Dry sort of piney and peachy/apricot sort of aftertaste and finish. The palate was the obvious (light bodied and sessionable). Carbonation felt fine and the ABV felt as projected. Overall, well, my question to the brewer is why are they putting this out as a Winter seasonal? Who drinks session IPA’s in the Winter? Oh yeah, hey Frank "get off my lawn." I’m supposed to say that for every session IPA I drink and rate on this website from now on.

Chilled and into a tulip. Hazy, sunny yellow gold with a tight, snow-white crown that holds and paints the glass white. Nose has hints of apricot, peach and tangelo with quite a waft of candied lemon curd. On the palate it is very similar to the nose. It has a sweetness that lingers, very citric and tangy. Plenty of sunny, grainy pale malt. Low bitterness just leaning towards pine and nettles. Dry malt and hop swallow void of esters. Low carbonation makes the presence greater than it really is. Body is medium-light. Low oxidation otherwise clean throughout (my wife picked it up from the bargain bin; bless her cotton socks!). Still drinking well. Nothing to write home about but a decent drop overall. Peachy!! (12fl.Oz can, illegible date code, The International Beer Store, Leederville)

Bottle: Clear, light yellow-gold with a thin white head. Slightly plasticky, lemon/grapefruit scent. Taste is astonishingly weak....dismal....watery lemon, grain malt. Really bad.

shrubber85 (11706) - Greenville, Indiana, USA - OCT 17, 2016
Bottle. Lactic peach/orange, caramel malt and orange peel aroma. Golden yellow with small head. Lightly sweet lactic citrus, very light malt, and moderately bitter grapefruit peel flavor. Extremely light body. Plastic aftertaste. Not good.

Oscbert (1339) - Lincoln, California, USA - AUG 22, 2016
Hoppy aroma of citrus and pine. Pours a clear golden color with big fluffy head. Piney hop flavor, floral, earthy, biscuits malt. Light bodied with medium co2, light bitter finish. Enjoyable beer. Easy to drink. Not overly complex, but interesting enough to keep drinking. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

on draft at brewery, this one is light, some light pine flavors, a little orange and grapefruit. High carbonation. Thin body.

FROMTHEBOTTLE (85) - Ontario, CANADA - JUL 12, 2016
12oz bottle. Not much to say. Only bought this because I was rushed and needed to fill 6 pack carrier. But here goes. Pour-blonde to clear. Head- slightly above adequate. Aroma- where? Palate-a little resin, some citrus but that’s all. If I was planning to drink a dozen, then this would be a good choice. Overall, wish I had filled the last spot with something else. It IS what it is intended to be...a easy drinking session able (12) ale. Just not for me.

12oz can from the state store
Pours clear blonde with a medium sized white head, good lacing. Aroma is fruity, grassy and floral. Flavor is grassy, floral with a mild bitterness
Easy drinking

All things considered this is a fine Session IPA. It has enough hoppiness and bitterness to satisfy the itch, but goes down really smoothly. Do not compare this beer to other West Coast IPA’s or you will be dissappointed.

hfmejias (1297) - Marshall, Minnesota, USA - JAN 5, 2016
12 Fl. Oz. Bottle. Poured clear, golden with a nice white head and some lacing on the glass. Aroma of lemon, hops and grain. Taste follows, slightly hoppy, citrus fruits, bread and malts. Nice beer, enjoyable, very easy to drink.
