A multiple medal winner at the Great American Beer Festival, Coal Creek Porter has a solid and loyal following among Big Times customers. Impenetrably dark at first glance, Coal Creek shows rich red highlights when held to the light. Its blend of dark roasted malts combines with three other specialty malts and unmalted flaked barley to give Coal Creek a satisfying roasted flavor and smooth texture. It is heavily hopped in the finish with Yakima Centennial. Original gravity is approximately 15 degrees Plato (1.060 Specific Gravity), and alcohol content is 4.5% by weight.

This won so many awards in denver. With good reason. Could have a little more alcohol content.

Medium muddy brown. Lightly roasted, some cocoa notes, a decent bitter profile sort of overshadows the porter aspects. Decent brew.

Draft pour pint at stop #1 of my on foot Seattle tour. Research for an upcoming video documented experience. I am thankful for the wealth of beer places and breweries that are open at 11 on a Monday/Holiday. Listed at 5.4. Cola black pour with a cream foam head and lace. Sugar sweet, light roast aroma. Flavor is rich chocolate, soft roast, and a bit watery. Has a decent hop presence as well. If I didnt know better I could mix this up with a CDA, but the styles seem to overlap in certain cases anyway. Overall a tasty beer, but a little watery and Im missing the bold porter factor that I love. Still a good beer though.

Draft at brewpub. Hazy cola brown, small foam. Soft chocolately roast malt. Nice creamy, tasty body. Lots of flavor all around, a little sweet in the finish. Not the most defined or sharpest beer around, but tasty porter.

On tap at Big Time, pours a dark brown with a small tan head. Aroma brings out notes of charcoal in typical coal porter fashion. Flavour is well-balanced, with dry cocoa powder and light roast. Decent porter, just nothing special.

Draft - Roast malts and butterscotch. Deep brown with a decent light brown head. Dark roast, toffee and a burnt bitter chocolate finish. Complex and pretty nice.

Draft at big time. How the hell I havent rated this yet? Used to be the only thing I ordered when I came here. Dark brown pour (opaque, but light brown around the edges) with creamy head, decent retention, good lacing. Nutty, roasty, some dark fruit. Chocolate and roast in balance. Taste is somewhat sweet with a balanced lightly bitter roasty finish. Medium- body, average carbonation. Oily texture. Overall: still my favorite big time beer.
