Dark brown coloured beer with small off-white head. Malty aroma. Full palate. Finish is bit wattery and slightly bitter. Wim (4226) - Weelde, BELGIUM - JUL 6, 2008
black coloured body with a large off white head a roasted grainy aroma a roasted grainy sweet taste with a bitter finish Bart (2936) - Brussels, BELGIUM - JUL 6, 2008
Draught, dark almost black coloured beer with a small off-white head. Rather strange roasted coal aroma. Full palate. FInish is bitter, light roasted sweet malty, at the end stronger, but misses overall some stout character. Rastacouere (6177) - Montreal, Quebec, CANADA - DEC 3, 2007
Considering the style, Scores ranging from 1 to 5, 5 being the most intense

Comments: Interesting smoky, chocolatey stout with strong bready yeastiness that can’t avoid metallic undertones in its finish.
On tap, yesterday, @ festival Hasselt. Blak color, medium beige head. Aroma very roasted malts, bit smoked ? Medium body. Taste is sweet, dry, very roasted malts.

Draught Huge beige head, sporting textbook lace over fully black beer. Very nice smoked nose, nearly Rauchbier-like (blind, I’d sworn Spezial...!), smoked ham, a touch of liquorice. Dry, smokey (ashes) rather than smoked taste; cardemom and brown, +/- outfermented sugars. Slightly empty, very dry MF, ending a bit dead for a draught beer. Not a bad beer - not by a mile - but the nose promised me such delights, that I really felt let down further on. harrisoni (19534) - Ashford, Kent, ENGLAND - OCT 28, 2007
On tap at Bruxellensis 2007. Black colour with lasting tan head. A very charcoaly style stout. Served a little too cold for all of the flavours to come out. Some roasty flavours towards the end. It’s ok. MesandSim (7117) - London, Greater London, ENGLAND - SEP 26, 2007
A Mes rate:
Bruxellensis. Black and tan but just not as inviting looking as it should be. Coffee, lots of malt and very sweet. Served way too cold so most of the character is hidden. Could be better but probabaly would be at the right temperature. duff (5486) - Copenhagen, DENMARK - SEP 25, 2007

The trouble with Belgian stouts, is not many of them taste like stout. This is no exception, it does have some slight roastyness, but the yeasty Belgian aspect and the carbonation take over quite quickly. This does have some nice roasted malt and licoricey characters, but feels quite light and uncomplex.
On tap @ Bruxellensis. Another Belgian take on a stout that results in livelier mouthfeel and thinner body than the classic style, and still manages to be interesting. Big-bubbled, lacey, brown head like cola, over a black beer. Malty aroma with some espresso and faint vinous notes. Lively carbonation, fruity-dry center like red-wine tannins, malty-dusty finish. Pretty unusual, I thought. Hope they keep making it.
