Also called “Monk’s Café Flemish Sour Red Ale”

We blend young and old beers to make this mildy tart sour ale. Light bodied with a lactic/sour nose and a bit of sweet and sour in the finish. Very refreshing!

Pours red, white head. Sour smell with a hint of sweetness. Very tart, with a sweetness also. Maybe a hint of lime or citrus. Not as sour as I expected. Refreshing! Very enjoyable beer. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle. Clear brown liquid with a cream-coloured well-lacing head. Aroma: fruity, somewhat acetic, dark malts, dried fruit. Light to mefium body. Soursweet aroma. Caramel, burnt sugar, vinegar, dried fruit. Dry, lightly bitter and tart ending. Not bad but not of best balance imo.

From 12oz can to snifter. Pour is a dark ruby red, thick off white head. Nose is light fruit, citrus. Taste is light bodied, sour with touches of sweet as well. Finishes very juicy on the palate.

Monk’s Café NOT Bios Vlaamse Bourgogne. 11.2oz bottle. Pours a reddish dark brown with a medium beige head. Aroma is plum, cherry, yeast, light vinegar, malty sweetness, and just a hint of acidity - not especially aromatic. Taste is plum, vinegar, cherry, yeast, lactic acid, some red wine, and a touch of earth. Lightly sour and fairly sweet. Dry finish. Medium body. Medium carbonation. Creamy mouthfeel. Too sweet but not bad.

Copenhagen 12/8-2017. 33cl bottle from Den Gamle Købmand. As Monk’s Café Flemish Sour Ale. Drawing of an Beer Barrel with silhouette of a Beer Mug upon it on the label. Very obscure. Pours clear deep maroon with a red tinge and with big off-white head. Settles as several centimeters thick layer of foam. Massive lacing. Aroma is quite sour bordering on the acidic. Vinegar and citrus. Subdued sweetness. Medium carbonation and slightly thick palate. Flavor is lightly sweet followed by stronger sourness. Aftertaste is sour and finish dry. Nice and sour without being extreme.

Very light bodied and generally mild, sour fruity notes are present, but it finishes with an odd buttery character, also too too too mild

beer-yum (1890) - Wellington, NEW ZEALAND - JUL 17, 2017
Alluring tart sour aroma in a deep red brown pour. Laid back sour taste is nicely balanced with a hint of sweet dried fruit in the body. A nice example of the style but exceeded by others.

Reddish-brown with a thick tan head. Smells like cherries. Tastes like rice vinegar and cherry pop. Tangy, pleasant combination of sweet and sour, maybe a little sweeter than I’d like. Has a bit of a oaky/earthy/dry finish.

On tap at ’t Brugs beertje Brugge. Dark ruby colour lasting beige head. cherry black aroma. Delicious. I do like a black cherry flavour. Wow that is perfect mix of sweet and sour. Just cherry juice superb.

Bottle at Irish Pub. Brown with big head and decent head. Smells like vinegar and cherry tootsie pop. Maltier than it smells. Finishes dry.
