UPDATED: AUG 29, 2017 Bottle. Clear amber/gold. Minimal head and some lacing. Quite an obvious caramel malt aroma leading into more moderate citrus fruit hops. Grapefruit, sweetish stonefruit, a mid palate malt hit and a resinous pine finish. Immediate bitterness, a good malt backbone with a long, smooth medium bitter finish. I like the ’Australian’ version of the ipa. All the features present without being in your face like like the Americans and the resinous pine you don’t necessarily get with the English versions. Good, dry clean IPA style beer. One of the better Aussie IPA’s out there, a great effort from a young brewery. Has a good hop aroma and flavour with well balanced bitterness. cookieboy (4) - Cammeray, AUSTRALIA - JUN 26, 2013 does not count
Bottle. Puts a nice amber colour with good head. Gorgeous aroma of citrus and peaches. Flavour hits with bitterness only to fade too quickly. Bitterness lasts on the tongue. Good beer but not fantastic. Maris (1611) - Canberra, AUSTRALIA - MAR 16, 2013
From a 330ml bottle on 16/3/2013 (bottle labelled Four Brothers Australian Pale Ale, thought described as an Australian interpretation of the the IPA style). Pours a clear light golden with quite a big head. Has a nice floral, fruity aroma with some typical IPA malt and hop character. The flavour is also typical IPA, though it presents as a relatively moderate version of the style. There are sweet is a decent shot of sweet citrus and stone fruits, as well as some caramel malt. The hops are firm without being over the top, with a touch of resin leading to a lingering bitter finish. Not a world beater but solid and enjoyable.
