2.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20
On tap at VBGB in Charlotte. Looked nice, had a cool aroma of peppers and southwestern spices, but I could just not get into this one. The pepper taste was almost fake-tasting and was completely unappetizing. I couldn’t even finish it, actually - my fiancee really liked it, though, so maybe I’ll try it again sometime with a clean palate.
Can picked up in Asheville during vacation. Pours a clear orange amber color with a small off white head. The aroma and flavor have pale toasted malts, earthy hops, peppery spice, mild heat, ok. bytemesis (8398) - Sunnyvale, California, USA - MAY 24, 2017
Can from the hotel cooler. Pours hazy golden, medium creamy white head, dissipates slowly, good lacing. Aroma is peppery for sure, hints of biscuit malt. Flavor is light sweet, light bitter, prominent pepper notes but no real heat. Light plus body. Quite pleasant actually. nickd717 (4691) - San Francisco, California, USA - APR 20, 2017
Can from Sam’s in Durham. Clear bright golden copper with a lazy white head. Aroma is big on jalapeno, earthy, bready, some caramel. Flavor is slightly sweet caramel and bready malt, a medium bitter earthy hop and pepper finish, tiny bit of heat on the finish. Medium bodied, drinkable, clean. A good pepper beer, although as always, I’d like the spice level higher. markwise (5441) - North of Tampa, Florida, USA - APR 19, 2017
Pours a orange-copper with a white head. Nose is earthy pepper, light caramel and some crackers. Flavor hits with light earthy pepper, crackers malt, and light caramel. Light to medium in body and an interesting pale ale overall. drpimento (3639) - La Crosse, Wisconsin, USA - APR 5, 2017
Ok, it’s fairly decent as a jalapeno ale, but its not so good as a pale ale as I can detect very little hops in aroma or flavor.

An underwhelming experience overall. Pours very light amber capped a one finger head that leaves a healthy ring of lace. The aroma us lightly floral hops with not much else going on. Medium bodied quaff lacking much malt or hop character. Bland until the fresh jalapeno pepper finish rides in slowly. Nice use of jalapeno, evoking the flavor without the heat. Just a hint if tingle. But the base beer leaves a lit to be desired . bubbleflubber (2227) - Swannanoa, North Carolina, USA - FEB 18, 2017
Pours a golden-amber into the glass, with a soft foamy head that leaves window-wash lacing. The nose is of fresh jalapeńo skins and pepper seeds. Flavors of Crystal malt, jalapeńo peppers (whole, diced), light acidity and grains finish with a mix of dry bitters and heat from the peppers. Jalapeńo pepper oils sting the lips lightly... a quality I quite like in a pepper brew. The mouthfeel surprisingly is medium-light, providing an easy quaff, with a substantial amount of peppers to provide the complex lingering heat, without overpowering the palate. This pale is done very nicely, not relying on heat alone for the brew’s makeup. A wallop of jalapeńos is definitely noted, but held in check by the other complexities at work. A nice quaff ensues, and integrates all of the substances together to provide a nice vegetal brew for those who like heat along with their brew. Kudos to Birdsong for a delicious offering! Very nice indeed! Prost! geologyguy (1602) - Columbia, South Carolina, USA - FEB 3, 2017
Jalapeno definitely in the smell but at a medium low level, taste is very jalapeno but not spicy...All flavor... Interesting...medium Earthy too...Flavor is pretty bold but not complex, great if you like jalapeno taste...At random tap for first time hopscotch (11101) - Vero Beach, Florida, USA - JAN 9, 2017
Can... Pours clear and golden with orange highlights and a white head. The aroma features earthy hops and earthy jalapenos. Medium-bodied with fizzy carbonation. The flavor is all about assertive jalapenos accompanied by unobtrusive bitterness. No spicy heat though. Not much going on here. Not flawed. Just boring with a bitter, chili pepper aftertaste. Really this is well done for a spice beer. Pairs perfect with Doritos. Nose is pepper and corn grain. No bite on the back of the throat. But lots of corn tortilla. Nice. Just needs more bite.
