COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Birra Roma is inspired by the colors and flavors typical of Rome, the Eternal City. With its gold color, this beer has a strong malt taste, that gives it a sweet scent. With its light but persistent body, it stands out fairly and pleasantly bitter with a toasted aftertaste and a touch of smoked wood. Well matched with Italian dishes, in particular with Rome’s typical cuisine.

Editor’s note: apparently the first bottles were called simply "Birra Roma", and as of 2013 "Birra Roma Ambrata"; Ambrata and Bionda can be separated by the ABV.

Slightly hazy amber pour, no real head. Nose is malty and a little bready. Middle is carmelized malt, little wood, and mild hop bitterness. Finish is somewhat drier than the middle, but still fairly balanced. Not bad.

12 oz. bottle. Best before January of 2018. Pours a pale amber hue with a cream-colored head which is fleeting. Aroma of malt, caramel, brown bread. Taste is caramel, bread, malt, nuts. Bland but drinkable.

HOME (33 cl bottle): Light gushing by opening bottle. Makes the beer cloudy (besides fine particles also some bigger ones). Colour is amber and a fine, thin light brown head. The aroma is a little unfresh (phenol, hospital, yeast), but for the rest a nice caramel flavour. Taste is sweet, caramel and for the rest like the aroma. Not so good. In the aftertaste also some hop bitter besides the caramel sweetness. Palate is sweet sticky.

33cl bottle at home. pours a dark amber colour with a red glaze. has a small off-white head which leaves little lacing. first aroma i smelled was olives, besides that, notes of caramel, pale- and smoked malts, dried fruits, apple. taste is bittersweet with a slight sour taste, slightly dry and bitter finish. notes are similar to the aroma. texture is quite watery with average to low carbonation

Alive bottle! Fruity nose, spices, interesting hops. Cloudy orange, white foam. Medium light, mellow mouthfeel. Hayish body, smoky notes, spices, lightly lightstruck. Minerally and herbal finish.

Light amber body and fizzy head. Apple, sweet pale malts, bit boring. Taste is better, more pronounced. (Odd find! Bottle at pizzeria next to Mont Parnasse)

330 ml bottle, from Vinmonopolet, as Birra Roma, lotto 411. B B date 09 2013. ABV is 5.5%. Cloudy amber to reddish brown colour, with floaties in the glass. Moderate off-white head. The aroma is a bit unfresh, but not really unpleasant. Malty with notes of caramel, molasses, dark dried fruits, nuts and wood. The flavour is not as sweet as the aroma made me fear, malty with hints of caramel, a little fruit, slightly woody. Very moderate hops. Nice enough to drink, but probably not something I will buy again.

Alengrin (5629) - BELGIUM - JAN 10, 2015
One of those new (and often exciting) Italian micro brews, in this case celebrating the city of Rome and intended to accompany Roman cuisine... Pours a deep, slightly brownish cloudy amber colour with dark bits of dead yeast here and there, under a medium thick, crackling, greyish white head. Pleasant aroma of fresh orange peel, walnuts, mango, grapes, pink grapefruit, gingerbread, peach, baker’s yeast, autumn leaves, leather, cantaloupe, banana. Adding the yeast deposit expectedly gives more of the fruity esters. Fruity onset, mango and unripe peaches, orange peel freshness, progressing to become very yeasty with powdery mouthfeel, nutty malt sweetishness, slightly toasted with soft carbonation, ending in a leafy and lightly citrussy hop bitterishness, dryish; the yeastiness lingers a bit, as well as the nutty maltiness. Pleasant thirst quencher, but the body is on the thin side. Are we sure this is a Märzen? Seems more like a top-fermented beer to me, like an English bitter or a ’spéciale belge’...

caesar (7170) - Bunnik/Utrecht, NETHERLANDS - DEC 29, 2014
Bottle from Barrique Odijk, BB 01 2015, large sample. Hazy amber color with quite some small debris floating around, medium frothy off-white head. Aroma is spicy, slight caramelly, butterscotch, hint of toffee, hint of smoke. Bit sweet in taste, slight bitter. Medium carbonation, bit thin body. Decent enough beer though.
