Bottle sample. It pours an almost flat dark ruby/brownish colour with no head to speak of. Aroma is alcohol, red fruits, charcoal, ashes and raisins. Taste is similarly sweet/ashy with dark fruits and raisins. Body is too thin for such ABV and depth of flavours is not as nearly as deep anough. Pricey.
Aroma is caramel/caramel malts, bourbon, fruit and a good hint of earthy/slightly dirty. The flavor is caramel, liquor, fruit and a very earthy/slightly dirty finish. Tripplebeer (62) - - DEC 13, 2014
Barley wine aged in Calvados....seriously unbalanced beer, with lots of yeast residuals, no foam, some brownish colored appearance, not good at all. bu11zeye (13029) - Frisco (Dallas), Texas, USA - JUN 24, 2014
(30cl bottle, 2009 vintage) Pours a clear amber body with spare white head. Aroma of caramel, brandy, apple, and chocolate. Flavor of caramel, calvados, toffee, chocolate, vanilla, and light coffee. Mora2000 (6158) - McKinney, Texas, USA - AUG 16, 2013
2009 vintage thanks to bu11zeye. Orange-red pour with a white head. The aroma is full of toffee, caramel and alcohol. The flavor is more complex. I get some strong Scotch notes, with a ton of peat and oak. There is also a lot of caramel, toffee and dark cherries. Medium mouthfeel and medium carbonation. suprchunk (2994) - Crestview, Florida, USA - JUN 10, 2013
Flat, muddy brownish pour. No head. No lacing. Malty aroma. Cinnamon, vanilla, and raisins. Very malty taste. Vanilla and caramel. Almost a butterscotch. Not bad. Too flat.

330 ml bottle - cellar temperature - pours clear dark amber with no head what-so-ever and no carbonation either. But the aroma is simply heavenly: vinous all the way; the earthiness of a noble madeira wine (yet, the beer is not aged or oxydised at all!) with a considerable apple undertone. In a blind tasting, people would argue over this to be a wine or a vin de paille or vin jaune (Jura special type of wine)? Salty start over mellow sweet finish, sour aftertaste, than tad of alcohol warmth... Special it is as this is not your average beer but so much more. Del Ducato = finesse! minofra (2) - Milano, ITALY - JAN 18, 2013 does not count
Meravigliosa al naso, direi molto cioccolatosa, riscalda corpo e anima, perfetta per una serata d’inverno badlizard (5533) - Berkeley, California, USA - DEC 7, 2012
Bottle. Cloudy light brown with no head. Sweet cereal grain aroma. Apple, cereal grain, vanilla, brandy, and a musty earthy sugary finish. Grainy sticky palate. Disappointing for the price point. mar (5410) - Dallas, Texas, USA - SEP 13, 2012
Deep amber with no head. Nose is alcohol, wood, sticky, sweet, chewy. Smooth palate, chewy wood, sticky, sweet, and a nice finish.
