Heavily hopped, it has aromas of grapefruit, white grape and tropical fruit. Warm and fairly bodied, bitter but balanced, complex and persistent, its palate shows its character. It finishes with balsamic and resinous notes.

After watching the trailer of the movie “Machete” 4 years before its showing, I was sold on creating a beer to honor him. Not any beer, only one could bear the weight of such a name: a Double IPA. I have always been fascinated by well brewed Double (or Imperial) IPAs. These are far from easy beers to brew. Limiting the caramel amount, achieving a good dryness, making sure that the higher alcohols are not overpowering are some of the key elements to avoid an undrinkable “sludge”. Above all, hop has to emerge over everything else, powerful and imperious.

This is an extreme beer, either loved or hated. It has no middle ways, middle ways are not for Machete. Machete doesn’t come to compromises. “Machete don’t text”.

Super gushing golden fluid. A fontain. Lot of brettanomyces notes, infection. Just some hops reminds in the taste, but very sour and funky.

On tap at Uiltje bar. Light hazy yellow with a small white head. Fruity hoppy aroma with a very sweet estery white grape overtone, citrus. Taste is more sweet than bitter, fruity citrus, sweet white grape, estery dry ending, medium bitter aftertaste. Not my kind of double ipa.

Bottle shared in the train. Hazy dark golden with lasting fluffy white head. Grapefruit, spruce, very herbal and soft skunky marihuana. Way more dank green notes than fruits, but with a nice oily citrus touch that makes it still quite fresh. Medium sweet with medium bitterness. Medium bodied with slight sugary feel. Quite nice.

Hazy golden color, thin white head. Aroma of orange marmelade. Taste is orange and bitter finish. May be not fresh ?

Bottle from Birro Enoteca Losfuso Torino. Pours mostly clear gold with a large, foamy off-white head, long retention with excellent lacing. Aroma is heavy floral, fruity, and citrus hops with sweet cracker malt and pear esters. Flavor is moderate citrus and fruity hops and bitterness, sweet cracker malt and pear esters with a dry finish. Full body and medium carbonation.

Bottiglia. Colore dorato, schiuma bianca abbondante e persistente. Double IPA fatta bene!

Tap (TCBW15)
Stinky sweaty-porno hops. Pungent. Gold. Sticky IPA body. Loads more sweetish caramel and pungent hops. Bitter finish. They’ve just thrown hops at the problem, but that failed to solve the actual problem, whatever that was. Not actually bad, just nothing of interest here. Does cover the 7.8% well.

sonotono (266) - torino, ITALY - MAY 14, 2015
Colore biondo dorato molto carico, schiuma abbondante. Odore molto fruttato, frutta tropicale, floreale, agrumato. Corpo medio-leggero, nota maltata sommersa dal buon amaro agrumato e speziato. Si beve facile nonostante la gradazione.

Grosse odeur de caramel qui couvre un peu le reste d'arômes fruités type baies. Bonne amertume, mousse qui retombe vite.
