On tap at Thirsty Monk. Pours completely opaque black with just a ring of head/carbonation. Smell is ash, dark malts, berries and tobacco.Taste starts with thick cocoa malt with a muddled tartness, tobacco, char and blueberries. The berries are not a pronouced as I would have thought. Very complex. Good.

Well, this is a very odd one and kinda easy to see why it is so divisive although we both liked it. The aroma is funk, fruit, and alcohol and the appearance is a thick purple black with a thin head. The taste is all over the darn place with some funk and blueberries up front but a smoky stout aftertaste that lingers around and ultimately takes over. It is not an every day beer, but is good for special occasions or when you need something that is a change of pace. It is a confounding mix of tastes, but is interesting enough to be worth your time. Kind of like if a sour and a stout f'd... sour enough for a smoky hater and smoky enough to be intriguing. The beer looks nice. The color of the beer is a nice dark brown, almost black. There is hardly any foam on top of the beer.
The smell is, in my humble opinion, disgusting. It is very sour. I smell some cherry or berry and some oak wood. Thats about it. There are some whisky like oak wood touches, with a touch of iodine and some twists of red wine. That is all the positive there is.
The taste is terrible to. To sour, way out of balance. There aren’t clear blueberry flavours anywhere (at least i can’t find it). There are only disgusting sour flavours, with some hints of red wine in the far away distance. I hate this beer type anyway, and this one especially. Bleh. UPDATED: FEB 8, 2017 Dark blue with red head. Strong nail polish, blueberries and alcohol. Metallic, sour and blueberry. Not good.

Aroma: tart with strong alcohol feel, softer at mid, drying finish. Feels to be stronger than what label promised.
Top: small tanned head.
Base: hazy red with brown.
Palate : mellow mid bodied ale with longer than average finish.
Taste: ash, smoke, alcohol with berry infused hints. Slight tartness with chili smoke.

(Draught at Craft & Draft, Amsterdam, 17 Sep 2016) Black colour with brief, red/blue/beige head. Malty, sourish nose with notes of balsamic vinegar, blueberries and oak wood. Fruity, tart taste with balsamic vinegar, blueberries, some coffee and a tart finish with low bitterness. Almost full body, quite dry. Sour stout with chilli and blueberries? Well, a lot could go wrong here. It is mainly sour, and fairly unbalanced, but it actually works fairly well with tasty blueberries shining through the vinegar. Quite nice.
