COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Top fermented beer, a mix between Oatmeal Stouts and English Porters. Its character is defined by the 11 different types of malt aromas being used. Dark ebony, the nose is marked by roasted aromas recalling barley coffee, cacao beans and ash with a scent of caramel. It has a malty palate with creamy oats and hints of smoked flavor.
To the traveler who will never reach his destination, to all those who dont need reassurance to feel right.

Although its recipe has dramatically changed with time, Sally Brown is the evolution of a type of Oatmeal Stout I used to homebrew. If A.F.O. is fully characterized by its hops, Sally Brown stands out for the use of 11 different types of malt including un-malted cereals such as oat flakes and roasted barley. Two years of investigation in the fascinating world of roasting resulted in the creation of a smooth, complex and balanced, drinkable beer. Its name comes from a Laurel Aitkens song, one of Jamaicas Ska forefathers, which was later covered by Bad Manners. In December of 2007, Bad Manner played a show in a venue close to Parma. I showed up during sound check to gift them a case of Sally Brown. They liked it so much they were drinking it on stage and while playing the song Sally Brown the lead singer said: Sally Brown beer, the best! .Those words filled me with incredible pride and satisfaction. That night was truly memorable.

Opaque black (or maybe a murky, very dark brown). Thin off-white head, disappears quickly, no lacing. Peculiar aroma mixes roasted malts, light notes of chocolate and coffee and a smoked feel in the background. Taste follows the aroma, with fair intensity: sweet (oats?, chocolate) and bitter (coffee, roasted malts) are in very good balance, with again a slight smoked note showing up. Light body, very light crispness, easy and very smooth but too thin for the style in my humble opinion. Fairly good and interesting beer.

Kick 170316. Dark brown colour with a beige head. Aroma is roasted malt, coffee, cocoa. Flavour is sourness, roasted malt, coffee, dried fruits, caramel. Medium body. Nice beer.

Pours dark brown with a off-white head. Aroma has notes of malt, caramel and cardboard. Taste is light to medium sweet and light bitter with a long slightly sour, cardboard and caramel finish. Body is light to medium, texture is thin, carbonation is soft.

On tap at Kick. More or less black in the glass, and almost headless. Its sort of cardboardish on the nose, roasted malts and dried fruits blending in. Medium body with a soft carbonation, sort of dry. Roasted malts, dried fruits and cardboard in the flavor, all lasting for a good while. Sure not my kind of beer. 160123

Bottle at home. Very dark brown colour, big beige foamy head that quickly disappears. Roasted malty nose and taste, milky coffee, coffee beans, molasses, oaty, grainy, earthy, lightly bitter in the finish. Light-medium body, medium-(too)high carbonation, soft mouthfeel.

On tap @ Kick. Good looking dark brown, almost black with a small, lacing tan head. Nice, strong aroma of chocolate, coffee and dark, medium roasted malt. Flavor has lots of chocolate and coffee at the first sip, but then the flavor seems to almost vanish into dusty malt. The coffee becomes a bit harsh and the malt is weak. Strange. Medium to thin bodied and moderate in aftertaste. Nice start, but sadly rather boring after a short while (and I really like both Ducato and Bad Manners).

Bue en bouteille de 33cl la brasserie? Couleur marron/rubis, peu de mousse et pas deffervescence. Nez sur le chcolat. Attaque sur le chocolat, le caf le caramel et le grill assez ronde en bouche elle passe crme.
