Top fermented beer, a mix between Oatmeal Stouts and English Porters. Its character is defined by the 11 different types of malt aromas being used. Dark ebony, the nose is marked by roasted aromas recalling barley coffee, cacao beans and ash with a scent of caramel. It has a malty palate with creamy oats and hints of smoked flavor.
“To the traveler who will never reach his destination, to all those who don’t need reassurance to feel right”.

Although its recipe has dramatically changed with time, Sally Brown is the evolution of a type of Oatmeal Stout I used to homebrew. If A.F.O. is fully characterized by its hops, Sally Brown stands out for the use of 11 different types of malt including un-malted cereals such as oat flakes and roasted barley. Two years of investigation in the fascinating world of roasting resulted in the creation of a smooth, complex and balanced, drinkable beer. Its name comes from a Laurel Aitken’s song, one of Jamaica’s Ska forefathers, which was later covered by Bad Manners. In December of 2007, Bad Manner played a show in a venue close to Parma. I showed up during sound check to gift them a case of Sally Brown. They liked it so much they were drinking it on stage and while playing the song “Sally Brown” the lead singer said: “Sally Brown beer, the best!” .Those words filled me with incredible pride and satisfaction. That night was truly memorable.

Pours a dark brown colour with a small, creamy, off-white head. Aroma of lactose, roasted malts and tobacco. Flavour of roasted malts, lactose, grass and burnt bread. Medium bodied, thin mouthfeel and a malty, slightly dry finish. Past it’s prime.

33 cl bottle @ olio, BBE 31.03.2013
Aroma is slightly sour with roasted malts, cocoa and coffee. Feels like mixed dunkel & stout. Flavour is somewhat tart and sour with roastiness, cocoa, some coffee and dark chocolate. Roastiness and sourness do not mix here very well.

LOTTO 31 03 13 - Pours dark brown with a foamy head. Aroma of dark roasty malts, hints of cocoa and spices. Taste is sweetish, malty with hints of grain, roastiness and cocoa. Finish is sweetish and smooth with some dry fruitness and grainy notes. Decent, slightly unbalanced brown ale.

Bottle. Pours a dark brown with very rocky light tan coloured head. Minimal lacing. Cap shows a heavy film of yeast sediment that tastes and smells like milk chocolate. Aromas of dark chocolate, a little coffee and some roast grain. The chocolate is quite dominant though. Pretty good. Unfortunately the taste really lets this one down. It is thin and sour with a slightly astringent bitterness from the grain. Really lets it down. Thin mouthfeel.

Black with brown head. Toast, coffee and cocoa aromas. Sweet at taste, medium bodied with roasted flavour.

Davros (3290) - Melbourne, AUSTRALIA - OCT 10, 2012
Pours black with a lasting off-white head. Nose shows milk chocolate, vanilla, soft earthy coffee and gentle roasted malt. Similar flavours, quite sweet and very gentle. Could use some extra roasted malt to balance out the sweet chocolate and vanilla notes. Over-carbonated.
