Top fermented beer which is subjected to a secondary fermentation in bottle. It is deep dark ebony in color with a cappuccino head. The nose has aromas of chocolate, licorice, coffee grounds and tobacco with alcohol nuances. Its full bodied, long lasting, smooth and dry mouth is followed by a surprisingly hot finish that breaks its initial fullness and makes you crave more!

It is suitable for aging.

Dedicating one of our beers to Giuseppe Verdi was a must since our microbrewery is located in Roncole Verdi, the composers birth place. When I returned from my first visit to New York City I decided to create a beer that would be superior in elegance, balance and drinkability to all those stout varieties I had overseas. Although the initial recipe has changed, the very first batch matched my vision. Its uniqueness lays in the use of chili pepper which combines very well with the beers chocolate aroma. The hot finish also lightens its full bodied mouth by awakening the palate.

Verdi Imperial Stout is the first Italian craft beer to have ever been crowned with a gold medal in its category at an International beer contest. In 2008 it ranked first at The European Beer Star in the Imperial Stout category.

Bottle. Pours black with tan head. Nose of cocoa, vanilla, chili pepper and roasted malts. Taste of vanilla, licorice, muted chili pepper, cocoa and lightly toasted chocolate malts. Velvety mouth feel. Body a little thin for an imperial.

33cl bottle from IPB.
Appearance : Deep black with a big thick creamy brown head. Awesome head ! Light lacing.
Aroma : Roasted malt and some hops. A bit peppery and a little bit acidic. Light coffee and light caramel. A bit muted. Perhaps because of the low carbonation.
Taste : Roasted malt light coffee. Some toffee. Rather light and well balanced. Nice roasted finish. Notes of dark chocolate too. Light peppery notes. Light hops. Carbonation is very soft but it goes well with the beer.
Overall : Very nice beer. Well balanced and well brewed. Surprisingly drinkable considering the style and the abv. I think the low carbonation helps a bit. Quite tasty stuff.

@Mondial de la Bire 2010, Strasbourg - dark black coloured with a dark beige foam; coffee and black chocolate; a fair hoppiness; full-bodied and gently oily; some sweetness and a robust bitterness; a solid sharpness from the chili; long hot spicy chocolatey finish, long lasting - a beauty

First off, the hot peppers here are quite subtle. Dont let that turn you off. This is a pretty good beer and very well done in that respect. Its a deep, dark black w/ a heavy looking dark tan head of very fine bubbles. The nose is dark chocolate and mild roast coffee. The flavor is similarly chocolatey w/ just a very faint touch of heat from the peppers. It could just as easily be a touch of cinnamon or the like. The texture is creamy w/ mild carbonation, which is well suited to the style and any sweetness is matched by a gentle earthy bitterness in the finish. This is a nice and subtly different confectionery adult beverage. I am impressed and surprised by how good it is on many levels, not just the use of peppers.

Bottle @ mondial de la bire. A deep dark beer with medium head. Smell is on chocolate note. A nice imperial stout, quite creamy, very chocolate like, oily, intense dark malt presence, roasted. A nice beer very pleasant to taste.

33 cl bottle. Pours deep dark black, with beige head. Aroma is loaded with heavy roast, soy, cocoa and some prominent spicy pepper. The taste is cocoa and a cherry, earthy pepper character. The spice picks up a bit as it warms up. Softly sweet with a bit of cherry roastiness. Very well balanced and peculiar beer!

Vittorio Emanuele Re DItalia. Bottle from Oak Tree. Pours black with a foamy dark tan head. Getting a lot of chocolate in the nose. And some anise. Weird. Chocolate liquorice. Med + body; frothy carbonation. Flavor is smooth dark malt, anise, and some chocolate. Maybe coffee too. Theres a veg aspect, and some pepper tends to build with time. Not enough capsaicin to work up a sweet, but the flavor is there, and some mild burn. There are some subtle aspects. And the pepper really is building!! A one off fer sure.
