Top fermented beer which is subjected to a secondary fermentation in bottle. It is deep dark ebony in color with a cappuccino head. The nose has aromas of chocolate, licorice, coffee grounds and tobacco with alcohol nuances. Its full bodied, long lasting, smooth and dry mouth is followed by a surprisingly hot finish that breaks its initial fullness and makes you crave more!

It is suitable for aging.

Dedicating one of our beers to Giuseppe Verdi was a must since our microbrewery is located in Roncole Verdi, the composers birth place. When I returned from my first visit to New York City I decided to create a beer that would be superior in elegance, balance and drinkability to all those stout varieties I had overseas. Although the initial recipe has changed, the very first batch matched my vision. Its uniqueness lays in the use of chili pepper which combines very well with the beers chocolate aroma. The hot finish also lightens its full bodied mouth by awakening the palate.

Verdi Imperial Stout is the first Italian craft beer to have ever been crowned with a gold medal in its category at an International beer contest. In 2008 it ranked first at The European Beer Star in the Imperial Stout category.

My first stout from Italy- very cool. A- Body appears to be a dark brown, nearly black hue-but when held up to the light it glows and murky translucency comes forward. Pours with a 1/2 finger milky head. S- Dark chocolate is dominant with very faint chili in the nose and a mild roasted malt background that gives off the impression of coffee. T- Initial flavor is mild and offers cocoa, smoke, and roasted malt with a very faint accent of chili. The flavors intensify for the finish but remains pretty consistent all the way through-with roasted malt and chocolate being the highlights. M- Carbonation is low and body is moderately thick. D- This is a very good, easy to drink brew overall. The chili and spice are very faint all the way through and provide a nice compliment to the chocolatey stout in the background. This is a classy, not over the top, well done brew. Serving type: bottle Reviewed on: 12-29-2010 14:13:53

Bottle. Pours dark and a bit thicker than I expected. The head was interestingly quite nitro-like, thick and insanely dense with a creamy, chocolate milk colored hue. Nose was mostly roasted malts with a somewhat lactic edge and maybe a bit of chocolate thrown in for good measure but only a slightly vegatal character from the chilis. Flavors were somewhat tinny at first, roasty, and dry at the beginning with some chocolate, roasted malts, and charred chili flavors taking over the middle, finishing much sweeter than it started and with a lot more cocoa as well, some nuts, and a smidgen of lactic twang...body isnt too thick I suppose, but its not thin enough to be a distraction. It took me a little while to notice the chilies, possible due to the fact that I didnt know they were in there until most of the bottle was already gone...and the heat, which is very very minimal, doesnt really present itself until youve been drinking this for a while. The chilies here I think bring about soom slightly bitter, char, and chocolately vegital notes, maybe they used some ancho or mulato or something, though as mild as those are, youd think theyd impart a little more heat than what is here. I have a feeling they may have threw the chilies in the boil, which was dumb since boiled dried chilies can easily turn everything bitter quickly, which may explain the roasty bitter chocolate character here that tends to dry the beer out a bit even though there is still some sweetness underneath (not sure if thats a good thing or bad thing at this point though)...That all being said, its still certainly a drinkable and even enjoyable stout...I think I may just which they utilized the chilies better.

Bottle shared by the Burgh crew. Pours a almost pure black color with a medium brown head. A very sweet cocoa and chocolate nose, decadent like a chocolate cake. A dry flavor of cocoa, dark chocolates, some smoke and dark fruit. A mellowness and a somewhat thin body. Nice.

This poured a dark mahogany to black with a creamy lgiht tan head. Aroma was loads and loads of chocolate, mainly like nesquick powder, with light nots of roast and chilies too. The chilies came through a bit more in the taste but still a bit faint, the chocolate is there but not as much as the nose, and is overall very thin for an Impy. Decent.

dark red-black, thin large bubbled cream head. Rich chocolate nose, very soft, cake-like very light pepper that gives a soft, inoffensive vegetal note. Thin flavor, bit malt heavy, chili thins the chocolate, comes off bitter, less dessert like, also bit roasty through finish. Very thin like most birraficcio, a bit less attenuation might work given how dessert-like the nose is, but chili would hide even more.

A-very dark black color with a creamy tan colored head. S-the nose is very cake like, chocolaty and creamy, light roasted malt with a hint of pepper but extremely faint in the back. T-the flavor isnt quite as savory, a little thinner, notes of chocolate cake but light, hints of smokey malts and some light roasted malts in there, hint of coffee, slight note of licorice and pepper in the back. M-creamy medium to light body, decent carbonation, creamy finish. D-the body is slightly thin, the flavors are also slightly thin, nicely integrated pepper flavors, very light which i actually prefer. decent stuff.

Great solid imp stout. Pitch black with a decent brown head. Aroma is a mix between salty and sweet liquirice, roasted malt and even some fruity notes. Roasted medium bitter flavor with salty liquirice and a sweet sugery maltyness. Alchohol and bitterness in the finish

Bottle. Pours black with tan head. Nose of cocoa, vanilla, chili pepper and roasted malts. Taste of vanilla, licorice, muted chili pepper, cocoa and lightly toasted chocolate malts. Velvety mouth feel. Body a little thin for an imperial.
