Top fermented beer which is subjected to a secondary fermentation in bottle. It is deep dark ebony in color with a cappuccino head. The nose has aromas of chocolate, licorice, coffee grounds and tobacco with alcohol nuances. Its full bodied, long lasting, smooth and dry mouth is followed by a surprisingly hot finish that breaks its initial fullness and makes you crave more!

It is suitable for aging.

Dedicating one of our beers to Giuseppe Verdi was a must since our microbrewery is located in Roncole Verdi, the composer’s birth place. When I returned from my first visit to New York City I decided to create a beer that would be superior in elegance, balance and drinkability to all those stout varieties I had overseas. Although the initial recipe has changed, the very first batch matched my vision. Its uniqueness lays in the use of chili pepper which combines very well with the beer’s chocolate aroma. The hot finish also lightens its full bodied mouth by awakening the palate.

Verdi Imperial Stout is the first Italian craft beer to have ever been crowned with a gold medal in its category at an International beer contest. In 2008 it ranked first at The European Beer Star in the Imperial Stout category.

(Bottle 33 cl) Completely opaque black with a small rough beige head. Hard roasted malts in the nose. Quite full-bodied, hard roasted malt accents and some lightly sweet licorice. Hardly any bitterness. 011108

Pours jet-black with a big beige head. Aroma of roasted malts, chocolate and spice. Flavor is rich, tasting of dark cocoa and expresso. A bit light of body for this style, but still pretty good overall.

Black color with majestic head, brownish and creamy. Aroma of roasted malt and some cardboard, unexciting; but also some coffee later, and that’s better. The flavor is very good, with dark chocolate and some roasted malt, not too ashy as other black beers, and not thick at all; good bitterness level.
Good chocolatey Foreign Stout.

Black color. A good Imperial Stout, with nice aroma, medium body, strong liquorice character. A bit dry at the end.

Bottle at home (Domus Birrae, Roma) - 05/10/12. Rich black with a thick mocha head that soon thins to a pond and disperses to the edge of the glass. Roasted dark malts on the nose, molasses, chocolate, a little coffee. Rich roast malt flavour, dark chocolate, licqourice and a little alcohol. Medium bodied with spritzy carbonation, a little too much for the style. Good imperial stout.

330mL bottle, pours black with a small beige / tan head. Aroma of rich dark chocolate, roasted malts, licorice and nuts. Flavour of licorice, dark chocolate, nuts and burnt / roasted malt. Finishes nutty with a lingering roasty, bitterness. Light body for the style. Solid, though nothing out of the ordinary.

Bottle from GBBF 2013 drunk at home. Black beer thick tan head. Bit papery on the malts. But the dark malts are good, some good choc and coffee. It’s fine, some good choc.

Pretty black. Nutty, ricey aroma with dark chocolate, light coffee and an almost almondy finish. Thick body is somewhat flat. Hints of cacao and nuts. Dry finish shows both sweet cream and light chile note.
