Top fermented beer which undergoes a secondary fermentation in bottle. It is intense gold, almost orange in color, with aromas of fruit in syrup (pineapple, peach and apricot), candy sugar, bread crust and a note of chives from the Belgian hops of Poperinge. Warm and sweet on the palate with a firm fizzy finish. Strong and structured, sweet and inviting. A tribute to a friend who went missing, who we may meet again one day, just like the sun that is hiding behind the hill.

Winterlude is also named after a Bob Dylan song, a perfect fit since it is a winter warmer. The idea of winter as an interlude representing both the pause before awakening and the oblivion before new life.
This beer is inspired by some varieties of the Belgian Tripels. The hops come from the Poperinge region, a variety I have always been fascinated by. I connected with one of the region’s local farmer and had him set a preferred variety aside from his most recent harvest.
Because it combines incredibly well with food, Winterlude has always made us proud with our catering industry clients.

In short: A basic tripel ruined by a chemical sensation. Meh.

How: Bottle 330ml, funny cool shape, consumed 6 months before expiration date.

The look: Partly cloudy dark blonde body topped by a medium white head.

In long: Strange estery nose that is a mix of cider, lemon pie, phenols, chemicals, spicy hops. Taste is a little less strange. Basic crackery and bready cereals. Typical belgian yeast sensation. Quite fruity with a bunch of light color fruits (bananas, pineapples, more…). A good amount of spicy grassy noble hops. The hops provide a balancing-drying effect but not much bitterness. Sweetness sensation is average for the style. An annoying overall chemical sensation that was part crushed aspirins and part lemony Mr Clean™. There was a few good things going on here but an equal amount of bad things. I don’t have a dictionary or a thesaurus with me at the moment so I don’t know what is the opposite of a Winterlude, but that’s what I’d like to drink right now.

Bottle shared with the Nellerizer at the hotel in Rome - snagged from Domus Birrae. Pours mostly clear gold with a strong, frothy off-white head. Lots of sugary pale malts in the nose, some white bread, wheat, yeast, lemon. Big sweet flavor, lots of booze, some lemon sponge cake, mild yeast, simple white bread. Did I mention alcohol? Full bodied with lively carbonation. Warming finish, lots of simple and doughy pale malts, white bread, light yeast, lemon merengue. Decent.

probstblueribbon (4088) - Nepean, Ontario, CANADA - JUN 2, 2013
750 mL bottle from LCBO, shared with friends. Cloudy bright orange with a large off white head. Lots of sweet citrus, yeasty, spice, a little honey, so sweet. Medium body, loose effervescence. Really sweet, fair citrus and spiciness, sticky sweet honey, booze, meh; off dry with low bitterness, booze, long spicy citrus finish.

Bottled 0,33L. Hazy golden/orange color, much charged aspect, good foamy head of long duration. Aged and little sour nose, notes of citrus (like a witbier), yeast, grapes fermented juice. Discreet alcoholic impact, aged and cellar uppermost palate.

Bottle, february 16th 2013. Nice haze golden body, big offwhite head. Hop fruity aroma with caramel, wheat, big lemon touch. Spicy yeast taste, malt, citrus fruits, good bitterness and a sweet spicy aftertaste with more fruity hops.

great interpretation of a clasic triple, more aromatic, less carbonation , complex but drinkable. great brew
