COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Ambershock® is an amber beer produced by way of infusion, with 7.0% alcohol by volume (17.7 Plato degrees). The wort boiling phase is prolonged in this case to obtain a certain caramelizing of the sugars in the wort. Strong, full-bodied and mellow, its marked yet well-balanced malt flavor mainly derives from a special bottle-conditioning process that lasts for approximately 4 weeks. Bear in mind that this is not a refermentation phase caused by adjunct sugar or wort, which happens with Trappist beers. It is an exclusive procedure adopted by Birrificio Italiano® of Lurago Marinone. That is why Ambershock® is only sold in bottles. If it were matured in vats and served on tap, it would have a completely different taste. Bottle conditioning also brings about perfect settling of the yeast, which makes it possible to have a perfectly limpid beer with a strong, bright amber color.

Con questa birra, ho l’ennesima dimostrazione della validità davvero eccezionale di questo birrificio. Perfetta sotto ogni punto di vista, forse un pò troppo gas, ma questo è un piccolo particolare.

Cloudy, medium amber body with a brown tint. Creamy, quite dense, and off-white head that laces the glass well. Malty and strong lager-ish aroma of pale malts, caramel, sweet generic fruits and red berries. Quite strong flavour of dark caramel, pale malts, generic fruits, and grapefruit. Light sweet taste with a quite heavy, start and somewhat metallic bitterness. Mid-bodied, dry and creamy, moderate carbonation. Nah.
[33 cl bottle, enjoyed 5 days after BB date, from Vinmonopolet Ullevål, Oslo]

Bottle at Il Punto. Glowing amber-orange-brown, clear, with a tall, airy head. Nose of rich toasty malt, bread, light caramel, a bit of cinnamon, raisin, and apple. Solid, malty flavor, dry finish with a touch of hop bitterness. Good bock, meaty, maybe a bit too bitter.

Poco zuccherina. Insomma tutto poco. Non una bevuta indimenticabile.

on tap at saint-bock, mtl. hazy medium dark brown, copper brightness, with a creamy light beige head offering good retention and lacing. sweet perfumey berries, candies - blue raspberry-flavoured if at all possible; some sweentess - spicy jam/jelly, red maltiness, chalky herbs, candied citrus zest. almost foamy carbonation, medium body - oily; gently warming, sweet, woodsy and spicy finish. plain sweet red malt and candies features. not for me.

Flavour is composed medium sweet rounded layered malts, toffee and brown sugars, dried raisin with a hint of rum. Palate is medium sweet, sticky, moderate carbonation. But sweet for me.
